The Role
The Facilities Manager will be responsible for ensuring compliance in all areas of health and safety and for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and repair of the facilities. Joining the Senior Leadership Team, you will oversee and implement robust policies and procedures and will be answerable to inspectorate bodies and commissioners for all aspects of H&S, facilities management, and wellbeing.
The successful applicant will be responsible for:
* Carrying out security procedures for school buildings and grounds.
* Ensuring robust procedures for opening and closing of school premises are in place and consistently followed.
* Regularly checking the proper operation and function of alarms and fire equipment, ensuring emergency exits are not obstructed, and carrying out regular fire drills.
* Carrying out/arranging Health and Safety checks, including annual PAT testing, gas safety, fire safety, Health and Safety Inspections, etc.
* Ensuring a regular schedule of internal and external maintenance is in place for each centre and undertaking DIY/practical tasks as needed.
* Managing a small team of facilities support staff and contractors.
* Keeping a diary of events and overseeing regular contractor visits including cleaners, refuse collection, pest control, etc., and sourcing best prices for services.
* Maintaining accurate health and safety records and risk assessments, implementing and upholding procedures consistently.
* Maintaining an accurate asset register and being responsible for the allocation of resources.
* Liaising with emergency services as required and reporting acts of theft, vandalism, or accidental damage to SLT.
* Reporting to the proprietary body on a regular basis any issues, concerns, or hazards, in line with company procedures and reporting structures.
* Performing all other facilities/Health and Safety related duties, commensurate to the scale and function of the post.
We are looking for someone who:
* Has experience in Health and Safety and facilities management, preferably in an education setting.
* Is flexible in working, both on-site and remotely (NO split shifts).
* Has a health and safety related qualification and can deal with Health and Safety issues.
* Can contribute to the development and implementation of relevant policies for the school.
* Has experience in DIY/practical skills (able to offer a trade is desirable but not essential).
* Has the ability to manage and prioritise their own workload.
* Can complete mandatory/compliance related paperwork to a high standard and maintain current systems, recommending improvements to efficiency and ways of working.
* Can oversee the work of a facilities team and effectively handle any issues that arise.
* Is willing to travel between sites and ideally holds a UK driving licence.
* Is friendly, approachable, and flexible with a can-do attitude.
