This role is an opportunity for a current Biomedical Scientist to move to a Senior role within Chemical Pathology for an 8-month Secondment/Fixed Term post. This post is available until the Winpath Enterprise (WPE) project has been completed, projected to be by April 2025 but could be later.
The post holder will act as the point of care testing (POCT) lead within the Blood Science department. They will be responsible for attending various meetings, managing POCT devices and their training, ensuring sufficient supplies are ordered and delivered to the POCT users' locations, attending devices that are out of service, conducting staff annual appraisals, maintaining up-to-date records of maintenance, QC, calibrations, and services for all devices, and engaging with the departmental quality management system.
Main duties of the job
1. Oversight and management of day-to-day operations related to point of care testing (POCT).
2. Review and manage EQA performance related to POCT devices.
3. Oversee and support training of staff using POCT devices to ensure a high quality of work is maintained.
4. Engage with the quality management system (NCNs, audits, etc.) and support accreditation under UKAS ISO 15189 standards.
5. Act as the expert point of contact for POCT related queries.
6. Resolve technical issues related to POCT devices.
7. Ensure effective stock control is maintained.
8. Manage personnel issues and escalate to laboratory management if required.
9. Liaise with suppliers to ensure an effective service is maintained.

Qualifications
Essential
* IBMS accredited Biomedical Sciences degree (or equivalent approved by the IBMS).
* HCPC registration as a biomedical scientist.
Desirable
* Specialist portfolio in Biochemistry.
* Master's degree in Biomedical Sciences or related subject (or equivalent).
* Health and Safety training.
* Quality management training.
Experience
Essential
* Experience working and communicating as part of a diverse team.
* Experience working in a clinical laboratory in biochemistry.
Desirable
* Experience managing staff.
* Experience conducting appraisals for staff members.
Knowledge
Essential
* A good standard of written and spoken English is required to undertake the relevant duties.
* Specialist knowledge in biochemistry, haematology, or blood transfusion discipline.
* Good IT skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office software packages.
* A good telephone manner.
Desirable
* A high level of commitment and drive to improve.
