The role
We are looking for a Media Relations Manager who will report to the Head of Media Relations, HSBC UK and be responsible for driving effective proactive and reactive media relations for HSBC UK, working in close collaboration with the Head of Communications, HSBC UK. The Media Relations Manager should create a profile for HSBC UK that attracts customers and employees, drives business growth and promotes an equal and diverse workplace. This includes managing external communications and handling reputational media issues.
The role holder will work collaboratively with the global and UK Media Relations team, as well as the wider UK Communications team, to develop and execute the UK media relations strategy, in support of the business objectives.
The role is based in Birmingham on a hybrid basis.
How will you help our team to succeed?
• Working as part of a busy press office team, to protect and enhance the reputation of HSBC UK
• Supporting the business and communications strategy by building a constant pipeline of ideas to generate positive PR for HSBC UK, including through newsjacking, data analysis, devising surveys and reports, and identifying third party organisations and spokespeople
• Managing and responding to incoming media enquiries, often to tight deadlines
• Building strong relationships with journalists, with a strategic engagement plan
• Working closely with stakeholders and colleagues in employee communications, marketing and social media to ensure a cohesive, integrated approach across all channels
The core skills and experiences needed for this role include:
• Experience of working in a busy press office or media relations role
• Experience of generating both pro-active and reactive PR including issues management
• Working knowledge of communication trends and best practice
• Strong storytelling skills with proven ability to produce clear, engaging narrative
• The ability to prioritise and juggle multiple demands at once
