The Role:
So, what will you be doing as an Electrical Design Engineer?
1. Develop Control Specifications: Write control specifications for new products or modifications to existing products, ensuring alignment with product goals and customer requirements.
2. Electrical Circuit Design: Design electrical circuits for the development and production of laser wire processing machines and other new products using ePLAN electrical design software (or similar platforms).
3. Documentation & Parts Lists: Generate detailed build documentation and parts lists, enabling the purchasing and production departments to efficiently order components and assemble machines.
4. Commissioning Procedures: Create commissioning procedures to streamline the transition of products from development to production and service teams.
5. Collaborate with Stakeholders: Liaise with end users, contractors, and sub-contractors to ensure the correct design, testing, and installation of systems.
6. Problem Investigation: Participate in investigating system issues arising from testing, customer acceptance, or operational use, providing timely solutions.
7. Supplier Interface: Engage with electrical suppliers to identify cost-effective solutions while maintaining high-quality standards.
8. Design Standards Contribution: Contribute to the continuous improvement of electrical and mechanical drawing design standards.
9. Compliance with Standards: Stay updated on relevant standards for electrical control systems, including EN60204, ISO 13849, and EN12100, ensuring all designs comply with the latest regulations.
10. Dynamic System Design: Understand the specific requirements of wire processing systems and design innovative solutions to meet dynamic performance and safety needs.
What are we looking for in our next Electrical Design Engineer?
1. Qualified to a minimum of HND or preferably degree level in Electrical Engineering.
2. Electrical / controls / automation engineering background designing and developing complex machinery or systems.
3. Experience in the full product life cycle from initial specification through development, build, test, deployment and support.
4. New product introduction: design, build, commission and test.
5. Electrical Machine / Control Panel Design with reference to risk assessment and applicable safety standards like 12100, 60204 and 13849.
6. Electrical drawing package experience (preferably ePLAN).
7. Electrical Machine Design for build and procurement - parts list, wire schedules, cable schedules etc.
8. Application of Servo Amplifier / Stepper Drive Systems and DC / AC Drive systems.
9. Specification of sensor types including proximity sensors, through beam etc.
10. Creation of Controls Specifications - Functional Design Specification / IO Specification.
11. Advantageous but not essential if have experience of PLC programming, robotics and vision systems, practical experience of electrical builds and use of diagnostic tools.
