(5d66c) To provide enabling support for a 12-year-old male child with autism and ADHD.
We are looking for a Support Worker/Enabler to provide 1:1 support to a 12 -year-old male child with autism and ADHD.
MAIN DUTIES:
Support the child to access age-appropriate community and leisure activities; including sports orientated sessions locally activities may include kicking around a football, mini-golf etc.
To support the child with verbal prompts regarding safety and deliver clear repetitive step by step instruction to ensure the child has a clear plan of what is happening on the outing and what is expected of them.
1. You will be required to be fit and energetic and ready to run a short distance if needed as the child may attempt to run off if distressed or overstimulated and has little awareness of dangers in these moments.
2. You may be required to take responsibility for and give the child medication though the child can generally take this with minimal support.
3. You will be required to interpret the child’s needs through not only verbal communication but by noting changes in body language and gestures to ascertain when the child may be struggling.
4. Respond positively and sensitively to any changes in behaviour.
5. Support the child to develop confidence and independence and learn ‘life skills’ approaching any raised anxieties with a positive outlook and calming manner.
6. Always provide close supervision maintaining the child’s safety in all settings. First Aid knowledge would be an advantage though training can be provided.
PERSONAL SPECIFICATION
The successful applicant must: Have a positive understanding towards children with autism and ADHD. Have a genuine interest in working with children with complex needs. Have a high degree of initiative. Be punctual and reliable as the child cannot be left unsupervised. Be prepared to be flexible. Have a happy, positive caring nature. Have a sense of humour. Respect confidentiality. Car driver essential and vehicle must be insured for business use.
HOURS To support 4 hours every other weekend and 5 hours per week in all school holidays, hours can be discussed and arranged flexibly.
RATE OF PAY £13.09 per hour. Holidays are 5.6 weeks per year, pro-rata
An enhanced DBS will be required, cost to be met by Northumberland County Council. Two references will also need to be provided. Services
