Steps Together Group operates a collection of Private Residential and Non-Residential wellbeing and addiction treatment services for adults from the UK and Abroad. Due to substantial company growth during the last 5 years, we are now seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Financial Controller to oversee our financial operations and ensure the integrity of our financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in financial management and a strong proficiency in accounting software. This role is crucial for maintaining the financial health of the organisation and will involve collaborating with various departments to drive strategic financial decisions.
A. OPERATIONAL DUTIES
1. Managing all day to day accounting operations with an existing team - this usually includes Billing, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, Revenue Recognition and reconciliations.
2. Coordinating the preparation of budget and financial forecasting and reporting any variances on a monthly basis.
3. Preparing and publishing all monthly financial statements, and financial performance reports for the SLT - Creating reports (annual and monthly) which identifies results, trends and forecasts.
4. Develop and report on KPIs as agreed with the SLT. Work closely with the company’s Sales Manager, Marketing Manager and Finance Team to develop and monitor sales revenue, and improved methods of financial return.
5. Ensuring all transactions are recorded, reconciled, filed and reported accurately.
6. Work closely with the company’s external Accountancy and Payroll service to ensure reporting meets compliant standards with statutory law and financial regulations.
7. Documenting business processes and accounting policies to maintain internal controls, and ensuring these are routinely operated across the business administration, sales and finance teams.
8. Streamlining and improving all operations and accounting systems.
9. Coordinating the management of cash flow, debt and debt collection.
10. Supervising and managing financial department staff, including regular staff supervision and professional development is maintained through annual appraisal and review.
11. Support the company’s external Accountancy and Payroll Services to complete the statutory accounts process in good time as required for Statutory Compliance and Year End Accounting requirements.
12. Support the business with the financial strategy and decision-making processes, including capital investment strategies, revenue increase, best value initiatives and cost reduction measures.
13. Presenting financial performance reports to board members, senior executives, and key operational management teams.
B. LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT
1. To provide effective leadership and direction to finance staff, including regular and effective supervision, annual appraisal and personal development for all employees.
2. Routinely monitor staff performance to ensure excellent financial processes, and key stakeholder relationships, and address areas of underperformance using appropriate mechanisms. E.g. Coaching, capability, disciplinary, etc.
3. To undertake the effective recruitment and induction of new finance staff in line with the company’s recruitment policy and procedures.
4. To contribute to the review of the company’s corporate training plan, and ensure that all finance staff training is developed, maintained (and recorded) in line with best practice, company policy and legislative requirements.
5. To keep the service under review and to identify opportunities for development and improved ways of working; collaborating with staff, families and clients to adjust service delivery where required for improved responsiveness and financial efficiency.
6. To be responsible for planning and development of services, and for the preparation of draft Service Development Plans. Monthly management reports or other papers for consideration by the SLT.
7. Ensure that all staff are familiar with the company’s policies & procedures and that staff induction remains effective and that conduct and delivery by staff remains consistent with these.
8. Ensure that all direct reports are operating in a manner that supports the company’s core values and brand integrity; addressing any areas of underperformance in line with the companies supervision, capability and disciplinary procedures.
9. To ensure that all data held on behalf of staff and clients is stored in accordance with the Data Protection Act. (GDPR 2018) and extant UK Financial Regulations and the Company’s record keeping policies and procedures; and to report data breach concerns in a timely manner to the Company’s nominated Information Control Officer (ICO).
10. A degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is preferred; professional qualifications (e.g., ACCA, CIMA) are advantageous but not essential.
