Job description
TEACHER OF BIOLOGY
Are you a well-qualified, ambitious and passionate Biology teacher?
With an excellent degree in a directly relevant subject, you should be accustomed to or capable of guiding students of the highest ability. Character and drive are critical factors in this role, as is a demonstrable interest in teaching the subject across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
Biology is part of the Science and Technology Faculty at Ashford School and is taught up to A Level. Teaching takes place in three dedicated Biology laboratories and AQA specifications are taught across Key Stages 4 and 5.
The Teacher of Biology reports to the Head of Department. The Teacher of Biology role is full-time; however, applications from teachers looking for a part-time role can apply. If applicants are interested in part-time work, please indicate this on the application form.
The ability to teach other Science subjects would be welcomed but is not essential.
The successful candidate for this role will use their imagination, commitment and ambition to challenge our students to enjoy Biology. They will also possess the insight to convey its intricacies in an engaging and adventurous way. Responding to the needs of the individual student is a vital aspect of a teacher’s role at Ashford School, whether this is during Olympiad activities, in one-to-one drop in sessions or academic booster lessons.
The successful applicant will be expected to build on the department’s successful, engaging approach to teaching and learning, and will also be able to articulate what academic rigour looks like in the subject. In addition, the Teacher of Biology should be capable of guiding students of all abilities and those whose first language is not English.
Teachers at Ashford enjoy a welcoming, comfortable and well-resourced environment and are provided with assistance from a range of support staff. All teaching rooms are equipped with permanent internet access and interactive whiteboards. All teachers act as Form Tutors and are expected to contribute to the co-curricular life of the School. Single person accommodation may be available in return for boarding duties.

Note - We reserve the right to interview and offer to a strong candidate prior to the closing date. It is strongly recommended that candidates submit their applications as soon as possible.
