The York Research and Development department has an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join our team.
You will be supporting our Mission of enhancing patient outcomes and experiences through access to research, for all our patients and staff. And our Vision of working together to strengthen the research culture within our Trust and to embed research into everyday clinical practice.
Experience of working on clinical trials and management of a portfolio of studies and completion of Good Clinical Practice training would be advantageous.

Main duties of the job
The role of the Research Nurse is to assist in the management and co-ordination of research projects involving patients, families and carers at York and Scarborough NHS Foundation Trust. This post will involve the safe conduct of research involving both NIHR portfolio studies and industry funded research, within the Yorkshire and Humber Clinical Research Network.
The role will involve facilitating the aims of the NIHR at a local level by ensuring that the Trust meets its targets for research delivery.
You will work as an integral part of the Research team co-ordinating, delivering, monitoring and recording the care and progress of patients involved in research studies and clinical trials. You will also promote the work of Research within the Trust and contribute to development of theSurgical and Family Health portfolio of trials. Experience working within ICU is essential.
You will ensure that all elements of clinical trial work is carried out in accordance with UK and EU legal requirements, Trust policies and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines and regulatory requirements to provide assurance that the rights, safety and wellbeing of patients are protected.

Education and Qualifications
Essential
9. Registered Nurse
10. Diploma level education or equivalent
Desirable
11. Working towards degree or equivalent
12. Completed Good Clinical Practice training
Experience and Knowledge

13. Professional clinical knowledge of nursing patients or patient care, acquired through at least 2 years post registration experience.
14. Understanding of research based practice.
15. Evidence of continued professional development.

16. Post registration qualification in Specialty.

17. Liaise with consultants, other medical staff and health professionals to ensure satisfactory communication with patients and seamless delivery of care.
18. Maintain accurate clinical, research and other records using the Trust's documentation or clinical trial site files and data collection instruments

19. Receive complex information about design and conduct of specific clinical trials from Chief Investigators and national or regional Network co-ordination staff.
20. Communicate complex information, which may sometimes be highly sensitive, to patients participating in clinical trials, ensuring that they are fully informed and able to participate in decisions about their own care
21. Participate in MHRA inspections; interact with Inspectors, answering their questions, contributing to preparation of responses in writing

22. Ability to make judgements about a range of clinical issues or complex patient conditions.
23. Ability to deal with telephone enquiries from staff, patients and carers, using judgement to respond or refer to appropriate personnel.
24. Ability to ensure all trial data are collected within specified time constraints.

25. Ability to plan and co-ordinate research activities including activities carried out by other members of the multidisciplinary team.
26. Ability to identify patients who may be eligible for trials and evaluate their eligibility in relation to complex research protocols, referring to other professionals as necessary.
