Job Title: Area Manager
Function: Operations
Location: Derby
Job Purpose:
Directly responsible for production shifts, effectively and efficiently managing the resources at your disposal, to ensure best use of people, plant and materials, and that the area under your control achieve the targets for out-put volume, quality and efficiency.
The Role and Responsibilities:
Health, Safety & Environment:
* Ensure that H&S guidelines are followed, actively drive identification of hazards to prevent accidents, where accidents happen ensure an investigation has been completed and corrective actions have been implemented.
* Responsible for the environmental footprint of the production process e.g. water, electric usage and waste disposal etc.
* Ensure that all people are trained on tasks carried out with appropriate records and no exceptions.
* Carry out regular independent inspections of workplace to determine whether work is being carried out in accordance with H&S guidelines.
People Management:
* Responsible for crewing/establishment in area including managing annual leave and sickness cover and to operate at optimal efficiency.
* Supervise the shifts team giving direction, motivating, coaching and counselling as necessary to encourage them to achieve the performance targets.
* All overtime agreed with site GM .
* Management of people’s conduct, performance and attendance to achieve the required production targets.
* Development of individuals to ensure total compliance and to allow maximum shift flexibility.
* Identify individuals with the potential to work at a higher level and put in plans to assist their development.
Manufacture and Production:
* Ensure daily work schedule is implemented effectively in accordance with agreed plan.
* Manage availability of labour, raw materials and machinery to achieve desired plans.
* Ensure all product produced is aligned with our food safety standards, and are delivered on time, and without damage, to our customers.
* Ensure all production records and statistics are accurately maintained and supplied to appropriate departments on schedule.
* Ensure that all communications with other departments are always effectively administrated.
* Ensuring GMP is always at ‘green’ level, strict hygiene and housekeeping practices must be followed at all times
Quality:
* Ensuring working areas, process and documentation are working to the relevant audit compliance levels.
* Capturing product efficiencies and product traceability, instant challenge if processes not adhered to.
* Conduct quality checks including attending taste panels.
* Where customer complaints or internal quality issues have been raised ensure an investigation has been completed and corrective actions have been implemented.
Waste Reduction & Yields:
* Daily review of yield data, waste streams and energy and ensure these metrics are effectively and accurately recorded and captured efficiencies to identify areas for improvement.
* Drive and challenge current site waste streams within the production processes these include waste, downgrade and giveaway.
Continuous Improvement:
* Lead daily Tier 1 meetings and SIC hourly whilst engaging with the team.
* Work in alignment with the site management teams on active continuous improvement projects, delivering company’s policies and strategy goals
Other:
* Customer/auditor interaction when required, ensuring joint sustainability agendas are driven
* Effective shift change over with opposite Shift Manager ensuring line standards are adhered to
* In addition, you must be prepared to undertake any reasonable requests made to meet the business needs of the company
Person Criteria - Key Skills, Experience and Knowledge:
* Good standard of spoken & written English which will allow written instructions to be read & effectively communicated
* Solid level of numeracy – able to calculate & interpret shift KPI performance
* Ability to influence and motivate and embed a continuous improvement culture
* Ability to confront issues, opportunities and others with logic with all levels of the business
* Methodically accomplishes tasks and goals
* IT skills – Excel/power point
* Motivated by a concern for strategically achieving results
* A high level of flexibility is required and ability to problem solve in a fast-paced environment
* Previous experience in deploying lean ideally within the food manufacturing FMCG short shelf life
* H&S Qualification IOSH
* Training qualification EAT equivalent
* Food safety level three
