Purpose of the Role
St Andrew’s is embarking on an exciting programme of research in the area of progressive neurological conditions (PNC), including Huntington’s disease (HD), led by the Head of PNC Research Programme. The post is a 3-year fixed-term contract for a Senior Research Assistant to support the ‘Behavioural Manifestations in Adults with Huntington’s disease: measurement and assessment of aggression’ research project within the HD theme. The aim is to investigate aggression and associated risk within HD populations, including developing a way to measure aggression. The project will include studies that use various research methodologies.
The postholder will be based in the St Andrew’s Research Centre on the Northampton site. They will be required to take a lead role in setting up and running individual studies, as directed by the Head of PNC Research Programme. The postholder will be supported by a research assistant (also being recruited), whom they will line manage and provide study-specific supervision. The role is designed for someone who wants to be part of the delivery of high-quality research addressing important issues in relation to mental health and progressive neurological conditions. The role is ideally suited to someone who has previous experience of working as a research assistant and is now looking to develop their project and staff management skills.

1. Providing supervision and line management to a research assistantProviding project management for studiesPreparation of reports on behalf of the Head of PNC Research ProgrammeLeading on the setup and conduct of a high-quality project, under the direction of the Head of PNC Research Programme
2. Supporting and contributing to project outputs and attending conferences
The postholder will be expected to undertake other responsibilities and tasks as reasonable requested by the line manager.
A Bit About You
You will have:

A Master’s in a health-related subject A minimum of 2 years as a research assistantProven ability to design research protocols that effectively address the research questionsExperience of conducting and writing up literature reviews Experience of qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis and write-up and creating study documentation that follows good research governance is essential Strong communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written) – including experience of giving presentations A good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams, and analysis software, such as NVivo and SPSS
