My client manages a large educational estate in Swansea, this is a dynamic educational institution committed to providing high-quality learning experiences for students. As the Health, Safety, and Environment Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety, well-being, and environmental sustainability of our college community.
Your New RoleIn your new role as the HSE Manager, you will be responsible for several key areas:
1. HSE Management Systems:
2. Your primary task will be to establish, document, and maintain robust HSE management systems. These systems will serve as the foundation for ensuring the health and safety of everyone within the college.
3. You will continuously improve these processes, aligning them with best practices, industry standards (such as OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001), and relevant legislation.
4. Educational Trips and Work-Based Learning:
5. You’ll oversee the implementation of effective processes for managing educational trips and work-based learning experiences.
6. Ensuring the safety of students during college activities and work placements will be a top priority.
7. Compliance with the Welsh Government and UK health and safety requirements will guide your decision-making.
8. Compliance and Audits:
9. Monitoring compliance with HSE legislation, approved codes of practice, and guidance will be part of your regular duties.
10. Conducting audits and promptly addressing any findings will help maintain a safe environment.
11. Reporting to senior management and external bodies as needed ensures transparency and accountability.
12. Security and Emergency Planning:
13. You’ll be responsible for maintaining up-to-date security and emergency arrangements across the college. This includes planning for various scenarios and ensuring preparedness.
14. Environmental Sustainability:
15. Monitoring environmental standards and compliance will be crucial.
16. Contributing to the college’s Sustainable Development Vision & Strategy ensures a positive impact on the environment.
17. Team Management:
As part of your role, you’ll effectively manage designated support staff. This includes providing induction, regular performance appraisals, and support to address any performance-related issues.
What You’ll Need to Be Successful
You will need relevant qualifications in health, safety, or environmental management, including a NEBOSH Diploma (or level 6 equivalent), or a Health & Safety Degree and chartered membership of IOSH or to work towards chartered membership. You will need to demonstrate proven experience in HSE management, compliance, and audits. Have strong knowledge of relevant legislation and best practices and possess excellent communication and leadership skills.
