An exciting Defuel Project Engineer opportunityhas arisen at our site in Devonport at HM Naval base, the largest naval base in Western Europe which has been operating since the 16th Century and is the sole nuclear repair and refuelling facility for the Royal Navy.

As the Defuel Project Engineer you will be accountable to the MOD PWR Defuel Project Manager for assisting in project management related aspects of the PWR Defuel Execution Project and the wider PWR Defuel Programme.

What you will be doing:
The principal objective is to assist in managing the delivery of the Design Authority’s Requirement for pre-defuel project engineering activities, irradiated fuel removal, fuel handling and post defuel engineering activities, and to ensure that the Submarine is restored to a safe and satisfactory state ready for dismantling.
1. Management of known and potential safety issues (SAR & RT) and appropriate involvement in safety boards as defined in Safety Management Plan.
2. Provide technical support to help resolve technical queries and operational arisings
3. -Lead Investigation of operational issues to establish root cause
4. Introduce containment actions and recommend corrective actions
5. Provide technical surveillance and quality assurance audits to support continuous product enhancement for customer satisfaction and business expectation.
6. Develop and approve the technical content of technical publications/communications (used by OEM, build/commissioning/maintenance bases and customers) including acceptance limit development.
7. - Set reliability targets (such operational disruption metrics) based on historical data and monitor performance against targets.
8. - Predict future safety and reliability performance based on failure rates, adopting statistical techniques to support Numerical Risk Assessment, Parametric Distribution and fly forward analysis.
9. Identify cost reduction opportunities by reviewing and maintaining life cycle engineering policies and any associated maintenance planning documentation.

10. Budget management, Change Control, and conflict resolution
11. Technical Project Management experience suitable to assist MOD as the ‘Intelligent Customer’
12. P6 (Primavera) capability aware
13. Nuclear experience
14. Knowledge of components/ systems functionality and numerical methods
15. Familiarity of the in service operation environment, including regulatory and compliance requirements
16. Supporting/Leading cross-functional teams e.g. specialists, suppliers, customers, partners
17. Engineering or Numerical degree (or equivalent with experience)
