We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Operative/Handy Person to join our group of care homes. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety, security, and comfort of our residents. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out a range of general maintenance tasks, minor repairs, and grounds maintenance across our facility. This role will require someone with a keen eye for detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and a genuine interest in providing a safe and pleasant living environment for our elderly residents. This role will involve cross-site working across all three sites.

Key Responsibilities
1. Perform routine maintenance tasks such as minor plumbing, carpentry, and electrical work.
2. Undertake painting and decorating as required.
3. Conduct regular inspections of the premises to identify and resolve issues.
4. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
5. Conduct necessary repairs and preventive maintenance to keep the infrastructure in good condition.
6. Assist with maintaining outdoor areas, such as gardens and pathways.
7. Respond quickly in the event of an emergency, liaise with and provide assistance to emergency services.
8. Support with routine inspections for fire safety equipment and alarm systems.
9. Ensure equipment is kept clean, well maintained and is in safe working order.
10. Build and maintain positive relationships with our residents, handling potential issues or concerns swiftly and professionally.

Essential Requirements
1. Proven experience as a Skilled Maintenance Operative/Handy Person or similar role.
2. Skilled in the use of hand and electrical tools.
3. Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, and heating systems.
4. Good physical condition and strength with the ability to work in awkward spaces.
5. Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods.
6. Ability to work well under pressure and handle emergencies swiftly and calmly.
7. Excellent problem-solving skills.
8. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
9. Understanding and commitment to the health, safety, and welfare of our residents.
10. Willingness to undergo DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.

Desirable Requirements
1. Qualification in a trade (such as NVQ, City & Guilds) would be a distinct advantage.
2. Previous experience in a care home or similar environment.
