About the role
As the Maritime Cadet Recruitment and Training Officer you will recruit, train and deploy crew into our fleet as Officer Trainees. In this role, you will be a focal point for Officers who are undertaking development courses.
This role would be ideal for someone who can bring their excellent administration, communication and budget control skills to an exciting and engaging position. Due to the nature of the role it is essential that you are within commutable distance of Fleetwood Nautical Campus.
As Maritime Cadet Recruitment and Training Officer your responsibilities will include:
* Ensure that Officer Trainees are recruited from as diverse a group as possible ensuring that we attract the best candidates
* Ensure that the Officer Trainees are properly interviewed, recruited, and assisted through their training schemes, by providing support and pastoral care so they can achieve the best possible outcome
* Complete the tonnage tax returns and apply for SMaRT funding to ensure that funds available are correctly applied for and that the verification audits are properly supported
* Maintain links with training establishments, provide support and guidance for Officers refresher training, and undertaking the arrangements for short courses
* Administration of development courses, uniforms and general correspondence
* Track and trend various video and distant learning training
* Arrange short courses for qualified Officers within the fleet, such as Bridge Team management, Cargo handling and other such courses
* Travel to and meet with the college staff to arrange courses in the UK and within Europe
* Attend career events; promote James Fisher and the maritime roles that we offer
* Be the focal point for the training budget, maintaining spend within approved limits.
Experience, Skills and Qualifications
* Experience in training and development or recruitment
* Experience of government training grants, in particular tonnage tax and SMaRT funding (desirable)
* A willingness to travel to the colleges, view facilities and meet with the Officer Trainees
* Knowledge of shipboard operations and to understand ‘life onboard’
* Good verbal and written skills to ensure that communications are effective and that reports are clear and concise
* Computer literate in Microsoft Office applications; preferred experience with electronic crewing systems
* Integrity and compassion are key for this role to be effective; enabling Officer Trainees to reach their full potential, by creating an environment of trust and fairness
* Go above and beyond to reach out to Officer Trainees, assist them with their time onboard and plan suitable assignments to give a broad training base in ship types and cargoes
* Challenge the conventional thinking to find more effective ways to undertake training
