Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a newly opening Residential School for children with Autism, social, emotional, ADHD, mental health needs, or communication difficulties. This school is part of an exceptional provider of Specialist Education and Supported Living services, committed to delivering outstanding support to children, young people, and adults with a range of disabilities.
The school is situated in Caversham, Reading, and is easily accessible from a variety of nearby towns and villages, all within a 30-minute commute. These include Reading, Henley-on-Thames, Sonning Common, Woodcote, Emmer Green, and Crowthorne.
Key Responsibilities:
9. Support the teaching staff in delivering high-quality education and care to students with special educational needs (SEN) and Autism.
10. Assist in the planning and preparation of lessons, adapting materials to suit the individual needs of the students.
11. Provide one-to-one or small group support to students, helping them to engage with their learning and develop their skills.
12. Manage challenging behaviour using appropriate strategies and techniques to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
13. Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to implement individualised education plans (IEPs) and support strategies.
14. Encourage and motivate students to reach their full potential, both academically and socially.
Criteria:
15. Higher Level Teaching Diploma or equivalent Level 4 qualification.
16. Relevant knowledge and experience working with pupils with SEN and Autism.
17. Strong understanding of safeguarding principles and child protection.
18. Experience in managing challenging behaviour in an educational setting.
19. Previous experience working in a specialist education environment.
