The Role
As an Apprentice in our Signalling Department you will be working alongside some of our most experienced Engineers and Technicians. You will specialise in Signalling, a discipline that is integral to the successful and safe running of our railway. You will learn whilst working hands on with the team as we carry out daily maintenance tasks, fault finding on the Signalling system and facilitate Signalling projects. You will work as part of a driven team striving to maintain a safe and reliable Signalling system.
You will receive training from our training department, Signalling team and Signalling Specialists to help develop your expertise in the role. Alongside this, you will also complete a Level 3 Rail Engineering Technicians Apprenticeship, specialising In Signalling, allowing you to transfer the knowledge gained to your work environment. This position will interest you if you are logical in your approach and enjoy problem solving in real-time. You will need to demonstrate your ability to work and study autonomously, promote quality and high standards and an ability to work under pressure. Eurotunnel runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so you will find yourself out in all weathers at different times of the day, so flexibility and dedication are key.
Principal Accountabilities, Qualifications and Experience
The apprentice must commit to completing the apprentice-training programme and become suitably competent in the systems and procedures of Signalling in order to be considered for a permanent technician position at the end of the programme.
The list below summarises some of the general requirements following training however, this list is not exhaustive and each work area will have specific requirements:
1. Understand and respect Health, Safety, and operational procedures.
2. Learn to perform planned maintenance of equipment in accordance with approved maintenance instructions and schedules to achieve reliability and maximum availability.
3. Become competent in undertaking fault diagnostic work and perform consequential corrective maintenance, of Signalling equipment in accordance with approved diagnostic procedures, and instructions to ensure the equipment is returned to service, in a safe and timely manner.
4. Know how to record and report equipment performance against agreed instructions and schedules.
5. Become proficient in the use of all computerised administrative systems.
6. To work productively as part of fully integrated team, demonstrating the expected company ethics, values and behaviours.
7. A Levels or GCSEs at grades 9 - 5 in Maths, English and a Science or Technical subject as a minimum.
8. ONC or HNC electrical qualification is a distinct advantage, or a willingness to undertake this additionally as part of the requirements of the role.
9. Competence in Microsoft Office, Outlook and web tools.
10. The ability to communicate in French would be an advantage, but not essential.
11. A full UK driving licence is essential for this role, which will ideally be held at appointment.
12. This role is open to individuals aged 18 years and over at the time of taking up the appointment.
