We are currently looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Commercial team in the position of Commercial Director – Flooring.
The role will provide leadership and direction for the sales, commercial and customer service functions for the precast concrete flooring product lines within Bison Precast. The role will be responsible for delivering agreed volume, revenue, margin, market share, customer service targets and importantly have ownership of the overall business profitability. To support this the role is based at Hoveringham and whilst some flexible working is possible, regular working from site is required.
The incumbent will create a positive sales team culture to deliver the required results whilst also collaborating closely with the brick and block commercial team to allow effective working in a matrix structure. Whilst majoring on flooring the role is responsible for promoting and leveraging the commercial benefits of a broad product offering.
Your duties would include but not limited to the following:
Commercial Performance Management
* Be accountable for the overall profitability of the Bison flooring business, majoring on the revenue line but also managing the product margin recognising the fluctuating, and sometimes volatile, nature of key materials especially EPS
* Establish clear sector and customer reporting to track sales, price and margin performance to budget/forecast with clear variance analysis to create improvement and action improvement plans
* Establish a culture of productivity, cost-effectiveness and profit-focus at all levels to optimise margins and revenue
* Lead performance reviews of the sales team and customer strategies, product effectiveness and service delivery using agreed KPIs
* Proactively identify achievements, shortfalls and areas for improvement against business plans and implement corrective actions
Leadership
* Take the lead in building and maintaining commercial and technical relationships with key customers
* Provide leadership and to the sales, commercial and customer service functions across the relevant product lines
* Strengthen current commercial opportunities, whilst developing new customer opportunities within and across Forterra
* Significant contribution into the development of current and new flooring products to market, acting as key liaison with external parties including appropriate trade associations.
* Ensure all relevant standards [current and proposed] are adhered to, promoting market leading compliance where appropriate
* Collaborate with the commercial, design and customer service teams to achieve agreed sales volume and profit
* Ensure effective management of the reporting teams by providing clear objectives, targets and performance measures
* Proactively oversee and facilitate personal development plans for all direct reports
* Develop a close and collaborative working relationship with operations to provide alignment between the commercial and operational needs
Business and resource planning
* Contribute to business line strategic plans, and annual budget preparation and any subsequent reforecasts.
* Contribute to the development of strategic commercial plans to achieve annual revenue, margin, market share and profit targets
* Develop a resource plan to recruit and train personnel and in conjunction with HR develop and maintain workable and realistic succession plans
* Contribute to continuous business process improvement through the adoption of best practice.
* Develop new accounts, term deals and contracts with new and existing customers to grow market share and margin
* Facilitate periodic research into customer segmentation, competitor analysis and market trends within the building materials and construction sectors
* Collaborate with Accounts Receivable to establish workable credit limits that accommodate customer schedules whilst mitigating business risk
Customer Service
* Embed a proactive approach to customer service into the business
* Ensure an effective set of measures [including OTIF] are utilised to drive customer focus and service levels to industry leading levels
* Ensure service levels are improved by a logical approach to identifying and eliminating root causes of problems in close liaison with other business functions
* Create customer satisfaction measure and resulting improvement plans
Compliance
* Oversee compliance with up-to-date company and statutory guidelines including Competition Act
* Develop and implement an action a plan of continuous improvement in this area.
Key performance measures
* National profit performance and year on year improvement
* Selling Price
* Margin/Unit
* % growth of market share
* % growth in revenue for existing client/customer accounts
About You :
Experience
* Previous management-level experience in a commercial role, preferably in the precast concrete Sector
* Demonstrable track record of profitable growth and improving profit drivers
* Experience of managing diverse stakeholders’ interests
* Wide network of contacts within the industry
* Ability to see the ‘big picture’
* Financial awareness and Commercial acumen
* Ability to lead and motivate a team
* Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills at all levels
* Analytical and problem-solving skills
