The Role
As part of our ambitious growth plans, Occuity is now seeking a part-time Financial Controller to oversee the collection, analysis and consolidation of financial data to ensure the effective management of the company’s finances. The Financial Controller will also ensure that the necessary financial processes, systems and controls are in place and in line with the appropriate statutory requirements to enable us to drive the development of our new generation of portable, hand-held diagnostic medical devices.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
1. Generaloversight and management of all the accountingoperations of the business – including billing; accounts receivable; accounts payable;cost accounting, inventory accounting and revenue recognition
2. Ensuring theappropriate financial controls are in place ahead of an anticipated rapidscale-up of the business
3. Co-ordination and preparationofbudgetary and financial forecasting
4. Development and maintenanceof the necessary business processes and accounting policies to maintain andstrengthen internal controls
5. Ensuring qualitycontrol of financial transactions and financial reporting
6. Liaising withexternal auditors to ensure a smooth annual audit and R&D claim process
7. Management of otherregulatory reporting
8. Ensuring compliancewith all regulations, flagging any accounting issues for compliance purposes
9. Evaluation andmanagement of all risks relating to the financial operations of the company
10. Oversight of all taxpreparation and liaising with external tax accountants (where applicable) fortax preparation purposes
11. Overseeing the internationalfinancial activities of the company in relation to overseas jurisdictions, suppliersand clients
12. Provision of accurateand comprehensive financial information to the board and other seniorstakeholders within the business to help guide effective policy and strategicdecision-making
13. Analysis of andreporting on financial trends within the business and reporting of anyvariances as they arise
14. Additionalcontroller duties as necessary
Experience, Skills & Qualifications
Essential
15. Educated to degree-level in accounting, economics, finance or a related field
16. 7- 10 years’ general accounting/finance experience
17. Minimum of 3 years’ experience at Financial Controller level
18. Previous experience leading financial teams and overseeing a company’s financial control and reporting activities
19. In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, processes and procedures and financial best practice
20. Significant experience in budgeting and financial forecasting
21. In-depth experience in the preparation and creation of financial statements and accounts
22. A strong understanding of tax codes and laws
23. Experience of working in ex-UK markets, together with an appreciation of international regulations, tax law and currencies
24. Previous experience liaising and working with external auditors
25. Knowledge of and practical experience in change best practice
26. An effective communicator with a solid background in liaising with senior management and other key stakeholders up to and including C-suite
27. Experienced in the use of financial and accounting software
28. First-class organisation and administration skills
Desirable
29. ACA, ACCA, CIMA or ICAEW qualification, or an MBA/Masters degree in Accounting would be highly desirable
30. Previous experience working in a start-up/rapid scale-up entity would be considered beneficial
31. Previous experience with XERO and/or Unleashed would be advantageous
32. Previous experience in a managerial accounting position would be desirable
33. A background in or appreciation of a corporate finance environment would be considered useful for this role
