Eden Scott is delighted to be partnering with Pelagia (UK) Ltd, to recruit an experienced professional for the position of Quality & Laboratory / Technical Manager
The factory is located in the north-east of Scotland in its third largest city, Aberdeen and started as the Caledonian Fishmeal Company in 1977. The factory processes trimmings mainly from the human fish processing industry and converts them into high grade fishmeal and fish oil. This in turn is used as a high protein feed in the aquaculture, poultry and pig industries.
As the Quality & Laboratory Manager you will be responsible for managing the Feed Safety and Quality Management systems, coordinating audits and inspections, and ensuring compliance with regulations. Responsibilities include supplier evaluation, raw material approval, and maintaining quality databases.
Main Duties:
1. Implementation, management and development of the Feed Safety, and Quality
2. Management systems in compliance with current feed hygiene and animal by-products regulations and prescribed standards.
3. Co-ordination and Management of all regulatory, customer and 3rd party audits and inspections.
4. Supplier evaluation and approval in line with established procedures and specifications.
5. Raw material evaluation and approval in line with established feed safety and sustainability standards.
6. Maintenance and continuous monitoring of the various quality system databases.
7. Management of finished product quality and safety ensuring that all legal and customer specifications are met.
8. Development, scheduling, and completion of internal audit programmes and ensuring any corrective actions are followed up and completed.
9. Delivering the feed safety training programme ensuring that all staff are trained and competent in the production of safe and legally compliant finished products.
10. Participation in the maintenance, development, and review of the HACCP programme.
11. Identifying non-conformances and ensuring corrective and preventative measures are taken when deviations occur.
12. Communicating all product deviations and feed safety issues to senior management.
13. Communicating with customers on product quality and technical specifications.
14. Communication with APHA and trading standards on regulatory and legal compliance requirements.
15. Liaising with official veterinarians for product export.
16. Overall management of the laboratories, managing human resources and work routines.
17. Overall responsibility for laboratory health and safety, ensuring procedures and practices are risk assessed, safe and legally compliant.
18. Ensuring laboratory quality control programmes are implemented and maintained.
19. Monitoring and maintenance of all laboratory data, ensuring that sampling plans are robust and compliant with regulatory requirements.
20. Checking the accuracy of laboratory data and ensuring that results are circulated to the appropriate personnel.
21. Product analysis using prescribed methodologies will be required during holiday cover.
22. Laboratory cost control.
23. Communicating with customers on product quality and technical specifications.
Qualifications & Experience:
24. A Science/Food Science Qualification
25. Technical or Quality experience in food or feed manufacturing.
26. HACCP/Food Safety Management qualification.
27. Experience in implementing and managing QMS and a good working knowledge of a GFSI standard (e.g., GMP+, BRC, FSSC 22000 or equivalent)
28. Strong communication and presentation skills.
