About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Research Fellow to take part in a wide range of ongoing research as part of the Infectious Diseases Clinical Research Team (IDCRT), based at St Mary's Hospital, and working across the Imperial Healthcare Trust NHS Trust. The Clinical Research Fellow will have the opportunity to take part in a wide portfolio of ongoing inpatient clinical research in acute infection working under the supervision of Dr James Millard (Consultant in Infectious Diseases and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer) and Professor Graham Cooke (Professor of Infectious Diseases and Consultant in Infectious Diseases) in the Department of Infectious Disease.
What you would be doing
Responsibilities will include the development and co-ordination of clinical research studies, including several randomised controlled clinical trials of novel therapeutics and diagnostics for both viral and bacterial infections, platform studies, and observational cohort studies.
The post provides experience of clinical research in a multi-disciplinary clinical research environment.
You will be working alongside and responsible for supporting and developing the wider team including clinical research nurses and practitioners. The IDCRT works closely with the clinical infectious diseases team, and the post holder will have the opportunity to contribute to the clinical care of patients and participate in wider professional development and educational opportunities within both the clinical and research teams
What we are looking for
Essential criteria:
* Medical degree with a GMC registration
* Experience in the clinical management of patients, particularly those with acute infection, and commitment to a period of clinical research
* Ability to provide accurate and appropriate medical care for patients enrolled in clinical studies
* Ability to exercise initiative, work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, or independently
* Flexible, with good organisational skills and an ability to communicate with a wide range of people at varied levels
Desirable criteria:
* Membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent
* Knowledge of current developments in acute infection
* Familiarity with the standards of Good Clinical Practice and the requirements for governance of clinical studies
* Desire to undertake further academic studies and contribute to the academic activity of the department
What we can offer you
The Fellow will have the opportunity to lead on the development of study protocols needed in the preparation and submission of ethics, regulatory and grant applications and having responsibility for the day-to-day clinical governance of allocated clinical trials.
Candidates interested in pursuing further research beyond the currently advertised post will be given the opportunity to independent research funding and develop laboratory, clinical or translational research proposals.

This is a full time and a fixed-term (7 months) based in St Mary's Campus.
