Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Interventional Radiology nursing team at Royal Glamorgan Hospital. The Interventional Radiology team consists of Nurses, Radiographers, and Consultant Radiologists, providing a 24/7 on-call service for emergency patients. For this role, you will be a nurse interested in developing skills in this highly specialised area, including scrub, conscious sedation, and participating in a cross-site on-call service.
You will work as part of the nursing team and actively engage in the delivery of excellent patient care in the Radiology setting. You will be working in various clinical areas with all members of the multidisciplinary team. Good communication and organisational abilities, alongside excellent clinical standards, are essential.
Previous Radiology experience would be beneficial but is not essential as all training will be carried out in-house.
Main Duties of the Job
Primary responsibilities include patient assessment, preparation, monitoring, and post-procedure care. You will work closely with radiologists, technologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure imaging procedures are carried out safely and effectively.
During procedures, you will be expected to scrub/assist a Radiologist peri-operatively, monitor patients' vital signs and overall condition, and provide conscious sedation or pain management if necessary, ensuring that patients remain comfortable and stable throughout the procedure. In emergency situations, you will be trained to respond quickly, providing critical care and coordinating with other medical staff.
After the procedure, you will provide post-procedure care, which may include monitoring for adverse reactions, managing any immediate complications or post-procedural pain/discomfort, and providing discharge instructions. You will educate patients on what to expect after the procedure and when to seek medical attention if necessary.
