We don’t have a job description for this opportunity - the directors haven’t put one together. That’s not because they can’t be bothered but because they believe in autonomy; that the successful candidate will use their skills and experience to shape their own role profile as they see fit. We like their open-minded thinking.
The company: Trial Balance Consulting are delighted to have been exclusively engaged to source the next Financial Controller to join a well-established and highly successful specialist manufacturing business based close to Yeovil. It’s a family-owned company and the director's enthusiasm and passion for their products is infectious. They’ve been around for long enough to build an enviable reputation and business has been good. So good in fact that they now turnover upwards of £50M and employ over 150 staff across multiple locations across the UK and Europe.
The job: You’ll be the finance-number-one and will immediately sit on the senior management team. You’ll report to… No, scrap that... You’ll openly share your ideas and thoughts with the company directors but you’ll be well known and respected by all of the company’s employees. That’s because it’s an incredibly commercial role where product costings and manufacturing processes will play a huge part in the continued success of the business. You’ll need to lead and influence the staff in all departments. Your department is already staffed by two experienced accounts staff but you’ll probably want to give some thought to future recruitment given the company’s current trajectory. It sounds as though their IT systems are pretty streamlined, but if you think there’s a better way then you’ll be taking on systems implementation too. On a day-to-day basis, you’ll assume key responsibility for the production of detailed management accounts, analysing foreign currency transactions (predominantly Euro), authorising supplier payment runs and internal payroll, multiple bank reconciliations, VAT reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
The person: Finding the right attitude and personality fit is top of our client’s wish list. Of course, they’ll require a highly experienced accountant, possibly operating in a number one capacity or perhaps as part of a wider team but wanted to move up the ranks. We think you’ll be qualified (ACA/ACCA/CIMA), but we’re open-minded on that and, perhaps more importantly, so is the employer. In fact, this employer is so open-minded that they’re not specifying previous experience gained in manufacturing as a pre-requisite. They’ve been doing this for long enough to recognise that their product costings are already effective.
The contract: We’re pitching the base salary circa £55,000 but we’ve room to move either north or south on that so if you require more (or less), do get in touch. The role is offered on a full-time, permanent basis and this employer is open-minded on the potential to negotiate some hybrid working where required. Ultimately, they’re putting their trust in the successful candidate to get the job done. How that happens is really down to you!
We’ve got this one exclusively so you won’t be battling against dozens of candidates to get noticed. Time isn’t necessarily on our side though; the directors want to see CVs ASAP. If you think you’re the unicorn that we’re looking for, get in touch with Dan Saunders quoting reference DS9211. Confidentiality assured.
