Overview
We are looking for a reliable Transport Planner to join our busy Transport department.
This position is vital to the team to assist with the smooth running of daily operations and reporting directly to the Logistics Manager.
Responsibilities
* Decide the prioritised delivery requirements of customers, analyse and route vehicles accordingly.
* Daily multi drop routing of vehicles across multiple depots.
* Communicate with Sales staff to determine customers delivery requirements.
* Be involved in constant dialogue with the warehouse team reference volume, weight, space, capacity etc and resolve any issues before they occur.
* Monitor vehicle progress throughout the day and make decisions on re-routing accordingly.
* Communicate routing decisions to drivers including all necessary and accurate delivery information – specific site/access restrictions etc.
* Communicate and build relationships with suppliers and agencies
* Request back-loading suitable to planned deliveries and stock transfers
* Organise deliveries according to customer demands.
* Communicate with sub-contractors.
* Identify customer requirements with sales and develops plans to meet them.
* Develop strong working relationships and has regular contact with drivers.
* Consider drivers working time regulations, tacho hours and any other restriction when routing vehicles.
* Involves others appropriately in decision making and communicates the outcome clearly.
* Strives to deliver continuous improvement in the transport department and across the business.
* Works closely with the Sales team to ensure that all logistics solutions are fully integrated and designed to improve customer service.
* To act in accordance with the company’s Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures and practices highlighting any issues appropriately.
* Performs any other duties as directed
Required skills
* Previous experience in a similar role or a role which includes the above duties
* Strong understanding of routing processes and procedures
* The ability to effectively manage internal and external relationships
* Problem solving mindset
* Well organised, self motivated with a strong work ethic
* The ability to influence at all levels, both internally and externally.
* Ability to work within a small team, under pressure and at speed
* Computer skills and knowledge of Outlook, Word and Excel
* Attention to detail and accuracy
* Good sense of humour
* Experience with Transport routing/planning environment
8.30 am - 5.30pm
40hrs per week
