Join AM as a Lead DevOps Engineer!
We are on the hunt for proactive, passionate, and highly collaborative DevOps Engineers keen to guide and mentor dynamic teams. If you're looking to step up into a management role, or push your management and leadership skills to the next level, this could be the role for you.
About us
At AM, we're helping to turn primary sources into digital adventures, unveiling the mysteries of hidden voices. We architect tools that empower AM's editorial teams and our SaaS customers to manage and present digitised materials, and help students and researchers to explore and share historical information from physical archives.
We thrive in agility - adapting, learning, and iterating swiftly; engineering at AM is dynamic and progressive, requires high standards, and always looks for ways to improve.
Our DevOps Engineers maintain our cloud infrastructure to support our business applications and enable rapid and automated deployment of code to support the efforts of the development teams.
About the role
As a Lead DevOps Engineer, you will:
* Manage a small team of DevOps engineers, providing them with mentorship and supporting their professional development.
* Lead our DevOps and Infrastructure function, taking ownership of the team's working practices, quality, and effectiveness.
* Work closely alongside the engineering leadership community to progress our infrastructure and deployment strategy, bringing new ideas and perspectives to discussions, supporting initiatives that create value for the business.
* Work with development teams, supporting them with their delivery objectives, participating in design, planning, and implementation.
* Act as a caretaker for existing cloud infrastructure and deployment tools, monitoring, maintaining, and hardening.
* Champion debate, collaboration, experimentation, and exploration. Mentoring and coaching others to do the same.
* Take accountability for the team's success, growth, and health. Ensuring plans are updated and communicated, that the team engages with continuous learning and improvement, and that success is measured.
Who we seek
We're looking for an expert DevOps engineer who:
* Values, understands, and encourages collaborative ways of working, from solution design to coding and testing.
* Is passionate about continuously learning and finding new and interesting ways to improve both our technology and team effectiveness.
* Loves the journey at least as much as the destination - understanding and embracing the work required to realise our vision.
* Enjoys and embraces the freedom and responsibility of autonomy.
* Understands the importance of servant leadership and a coaching mindset in cultivating empowerment, as well as the dynamics of managing DevOps engineers.
* Understands the dynamics and value of Agile, Lean, and DevOps.
* Understands continuous deployment, and has significant expertise in creating and maintaining deployment tools.
* Has significant experience implementing and maintaining cloud infrastructure, with either Azure or AWS (or ideally both).
* Has a solid understanding of cloud security principles and tools, and security compliance frameworks such as SOC2.
* Is well versed in observability and incident management.
Our technology
Our applications are built with a variety of languages, and our core tech stack right now is .Net, React, AWS.
We are re-platforming in Azure, and our DevOps engineers will play a critical role in helping to architect the way forwards. This represents a unique opportunity to have a major impact on our future success.
Our platform uses a microservice architecture. We use GitHub Actions for CI and Kubernetes for our container orchestration.
Our stack and toolkit is not fixed. Our teams are empowered and expected to chart their course and find the right solution for each problem.
Our offering
* A highly progressive, innovative, and flexible environment in which each team member can genuinely impact success.
* 5% minimum time allocation for training, and tailored training opportunities.
* A competitive salary (reviewed annually), and the opportunity to continuously grow and develop your career. We take great pride in upskilling and promoting our employees.
* A hybrid, flexible working environment where you can plan your week to allow for work-life balance and that will allow you to work from home at least three days weekly.
