The “Period of Recognised Training” will consist of a two-year training programme covering both a Contentious and Non-Contentious seat. During this time, you will be regarded as a fee earning member of staff, and you will be expected to provide a high-quality legal service to all our clients, under the supervision and training of a qualified solicitor.
Key tasks include:
1. Conduct of matters on behalf of Clients, under supervision.
2. Participation in the promotion of the firm among local professional firms including Networking events.
3. Financial control with particular regard to cash flow control through collection of monies on account, billing procedures and file closure.
4. Deputise for Fee Earning colleagues within the Department during holidays and absences as directed by supervisor.
5. Conduct interviews with clients.
6. Assess legal problems.
7. Advise clients on fees.
8. Conduct legal research.
9. Negotiate settlements.
10. Maintain confidentiality.
11. Maintain the firm’s policies and procedures in line with Lexcel, WIQS and CQS requirements.
12. Maintain organised files.
13. Be able to accurately follow administrative systems and procedures.
Person Specification:
1. The main qualifications for this position is preferably a 2:1 or higher qualifying Law degree and you must have passed, or be currently taking the LPC.
2. The jobholder must display a pleasant, but assertive manner in dealing with colleagues and clients and provide a professional and friendly service.
3. You must be an effective communicator, both orally and in writing, having a good command of the English language.
4. You will be expected to assist in the preparation of cases, usually under pressure and to tight deadlines. You must, therefore, be able to prioritise workloads at any given time.
5. Personally efficient and well organised, with a good control of diary systems and competent in the firm’s computer facilities.
6. Competent key boarding skill set.
7. You will have the ability to view situations from different angles. You will need to develop a capability of delegating tasks, supervising where appropriate and working on your own initiative.
