We are seeking a Band 4 qualified in speciality Nursery Nurse to support infant feeding leads and teach parents and staff on the NICU 4 days a week.
The NICU is one of the 3 tertiary centres for the Eastern Neonatal network and part of the East of England Neonatal ODN. The Unit admits babies requiring tertiary neonatal care including surgery and neurosurgery.
You will receive training and development in this friendly and dynamic organisation which seeks to innovate and strives for excellence. You will also receive a full and comprehensive orientation package and professional support tailored to individual needs.
Main duties of the job
The Nursery Nurse will be responsible for providing safe and effective care to neonates and their families under the supervision of a Registered Nurse / Midwife / AHP.
The Nursery Nurse will work within the Neonatal Infant Feeding Team and will support all families admitted to the NICU with developing close and loving relationships, early expressing and maintaining a milk supply and supporting with families with the skills required for responsive feeding.
The Nursery Nurse will offer evidence-based information and resources to support families with shared decision making around their choice of feeding.
The Nursery Nurse will have a good knowledge and understanding of the Unicef BFI standards in Neonatal Care and excellent communication skills with both families and staff.
The Nursery Nurse may be required to undertake further training in order to support in the education and training of staff on the NICU.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* NNEB / BTEC (Child Health) or equivalent or Health and Social Care in 0-16 years or NVQ Level 3 in Health
* Numeracy and Literacy GCSE A* - C or equivalent
* BFI embedding neonatal care course
Experience
* Experience of working with families and children in a Neonatal or a Paediatric setting
* Evidence of recent expressing and breastfeeding support to families within a Neonatal Unit
* Experience of EPIC and Badgernet data entry
* Desire to further develop Nursery Nurse role within an Acute Neonatal setting
* Experience of working as a Nursery Nurse in a hospital setting or Community
* Experience of data analysis of Parental feedback
* Coordinating Family Support groups
* Experience of teaching families
* Experience in teaching staff
Knowledge
* Understands the role of the Nursery Nurse in NICU
* Appreciates the confidential nature of the role and the work undertaken
* Knowledge of Unicef BFI standards in Neonatal Care
* Evidence of knowledge of basic neonatal care (articles read, website accessed)
* Interest and knowledge of managing complex breastfeeding issues of a mother and infant such as mastitis, engorgement and low milk supply
Skills
* Competent to care for SCBU or Transitional care infants in a safe and effective manner with supervision
