NHS Somerset is seeking an experienced and passionate leaderto join our dynamic Primary Care Team as a Primary Care Manager. This is aunique opportunity to contribute to a thriving team that supports the fullrange of GP, dental, pharmacy, and optometry services within our IntegratedCare System (ICS) and across Somerset.
About the Role:
As a Primary Care Manager, you will provide seniormanagement support to our busy team, collaborating closely with the SWCollaborative Commissioning Hub, other specialist teams within the ICB andacross the system. Your role will encompass developing strategic work plans,leading transformational projects, and ensuring that our commissioning andcontracting priorities align with the wider goals of our ICS. In this role, youwill also act as the primary care locality lead for one of our four localities,where youll build strong relationships with PCN and practice leaders to helpdeliver on our primary care strategy and national targets.
This position calls for an innovative and strategic thinkerwho can navigate complex challengeswhether addressing practice resilience,quality, or business viability.

Main duties of the job
Purpose of the Role: Support the Heads of GMS and PODs to deliver high-quality primary care services in Somerset. This involves collaboration with primary care providers, health, and social care system partners to achieve strategic goals.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
This post is designed to support the Head ofGeneral Medical Services (GMS) and the Head of Pharmaceutical, Optical andDental Services (PODs) to deliver high quality primary care services for thepopulation of Somerset.
The effective delivery of this role willinvolve working in collaboration with all primary care providers as well aswider health and social care system partners, in the delivery of local andnational strategic priorities and agreed objectives encompassing the entiretyof the commissioning and contracting cycle.
The post will also be integral to supportingintegrated neighbourhood working across a locality footprint.
KEY RESPONSIBILTIES OF THE ROLE:
General:
To assist in the development of a culture of positiveinnovation and change for primary care within the context of improvingpopulation health and system effectiveness.
Contribute to relevant policy and strategy discussionsproviding local knowledge, expertise, and insight to influence the decision-makingprocess.
Contract management to include procurement andnegotiation.
Responsibility and management of portfolio areas forexample primary care workforce, community pharmacy services.
Oversight and liaison with NHS England and theSouthwest Collaborative Commissioning Hub (CCH) on portfolio areas.
Complex technical query resolution as well as complexpatient registration queries.
Operational budget management.
Supporting MP enquiries, complaints, and Freedom ofInformation requests.
Project leads on identified areas of work.
Support oversight sign off of the weekly GP bulletin.
Represent the team at a range of internal and externalmeetings that require primary care ICB attendance. This includes preparingpaperwork and briefings as appropriate.
Ensure quality and patient outcomes is at the heart ofall commissioning plans and work programmes.
Ensure patient participation and engagement indevelopment and commissioning of improved patient pathways.
Collaborative Working:
To take responsibility for ensuring an effective andproductive relationship between the ICB and specific Primary Care Networks in alocality area.
Work in tandem with the ICB Integrated NeighbourhoodLeads to ensure delivery of national and local strategic priorities andobjectives.
To work in a Team of Teams approach with both internaland external colleagues, developing good working relationships.
Leadership / Management:
Deputise for the Head of GMS and Head of PODs as andwhen required.
To line manage the Assistant Primary Care Managers ina way that supports growth and maximises potential, whilst fulfilling good HRpractice.
Support team leadership and development.
