North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a Specialty Doctor in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. The successful candidate will have a primary base at the new West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven, however will also have the opportunity to work at Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.
The job plans are designed for ten programmed activities (PA) with an additional 2 APA's. However, 10 PA plans or part-time applications are also available. Sessions will be allocated within the individual's job plan for the development of specialist interest and training. An average of 1.5 SPA sessions per week for full-time employees will be protected for supporting professional activities.
Successful candidates will be encouraged to develop a special interest to complement the other members of the department.
Job Plans will be developed with the successful candidates to incorporate their areas of specialist interest. Doctors will also be encouraged to maintain an RCOG portfolio to record their increasing competencies and training and facilitate career progression similar to ATSMs. We are recognised as educationally suitable for MRCOG qualification. As a department, we would be happy to support CESR applications following relevant training and when a candidate is deemed fit for such application.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be expected to:
1. Work with professional colleagues and managers to ensure the efficient running of services
2. Work closely with other specialist teams
3. Assist with service improvements and the development of business plans to inform the future strategic direction
4. Participate in clinical meetings and postgraduate activities in the Trust.
5. Share with colleagues the role of educational or clinical supervisor to junior doctors in training, including induction, supportive formal appraisals, supervision of learning portfolios, and career advice as appropriate.
6. Provide bedside and teaching for Junior Doctors and other members of the multidisciplinary team
7. Participate in a Friday afternoon formal teaching rota based on RCOG curriculum, new guidelines and research
8. Assist in PROMPT course training annually
9. Undertake personal development and mandatory training
The successful applicant will be required to demonstrate a firm commitment to the principles of Clinical Governance.
Develop a programme of personal continuing medical education and professional development by the relevant Royal Colleges' recommendations.
