Do you want to make a difference for patients? As a Maintenance Assistant (Shift) at The Countess of Chester Hospital you could do just that. You will join the Estates team to assist in the necessary maintenance duties to ensure the safe and continuous operation of buildings located in the Trust.
Please note that this is a fixed term post until the end of March 2025.
You will undertake specific maintenance tasks and will assist in the maintenance and repairs across the range of buildings within The Countess of Chester complex. Reporting to the Team Leader, the post-holder will typically cover a week over a 7-day operation. A shift pattern will be followed to include shifts of 6am-2pm, 2pm-10pm and days 8am-4pm with certain shifts attracting enhanced rates of pay.
Some overtime may be offered and this will attract enhanced rates of pay. The Trust also believes it is important to support your health and wellbeing throughout your employment so it offers a generous sickness pay entitlement scheme to support its employees to recover from illness. There is the possibility for formal training and qualifications to be gained including day release to college.
Main duties of the job
1. You will assist with and carry out routine maintenance tasks, including statutory, mandatory and planned minor repair works to a range of buildings and their components (after in house trainingas required).
2. You will liaise with the Estates Team Leader to request the supply of goods and/or services as necessary.
3. You will undertake and assist with essential works and general maintenance activities at the request of the Estates Team Leader.
4. You will be available in work via the handheld device system (training provided) to contribute and work towards the safety and welfare of patients and other staff and respond to any incidents ,fire, flood, trapped patients.

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust employs over 6258 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000. This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.
The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.
