Job Description:
Spectrum Geosurvey are seeking an experienced Coastal Geophysical Data Specialist to join our growing team based in Lymington.
The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking fieldwork for extended periods, processing and analysing geophysical datasets, including side scan sonar, magnetometer and sub-bottom profiler data.
Key Responsibilities:
* Data Collection: Conduct geophysical surveys at sea and onshore, collecting high-quality data in support of client projects.
* Data Analysis: Process and analyse geophysical datasets, identifying trends and patterns that inform project decisions.
* Quality Control: Ensure all data collected meets the required standards, adhering to established procedures and guidelines.
* Mobilisations and Equipment Verification: Assist with equipment mobilisations and verifications under guidance.
* Bugs and Solutions: Notify software manufacturers of bugs and assist with implementing solutions.
* Best Practices: Understand the importance of implementing best practices for handling, maintaining and storing survey equipment.
* Chart and Chartlet Creation: Create charts and chartlets in QGIS or ArcGIS for relevant project documentation.
* Data Quality Control and Assurance: Ensure data complies with project scope of work, reporting any inconsistencies to the team lead.
* Established Procedures: Follow and contribute to established data processing procedures and guidelines.
* Inconsistencies and Troubleshooting: Identify, investigate and troubleshoot data inconsistencies ensuring compliance with project scope of work.
* Report Preparation: Prepare reports based on geophysical survey data and interpretation.
* Seabed Contact Identification: Identify and characterise seabed contacts.
Requirements:
* Degree or Equivalent: Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject such as Geology, Geophysics or other related marine or earth science.
* Problem Solving and Communication Skills: Ability to take initiative, problem solve and troubleshoot data where required.
* Data Management and Coordination: Understanding of data management and required coordination skills to handle large volumes of data.
* Interpersonal and Written Communication Skills: Good interpersonal and written communication skills.
* Computer Literacy: High level of computer literacy.
* Microsoft Office Applications: Highly competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel.
* Academic Report Writing Skills: Strong academic report writing skills.
* Able to Work in the UK: Able to work in the UK.
* Full Valid UK Driving License: Full valid UK driving license.
Desired Attributes:
* GIS and Spatial Data Experience: Work experience with GIS and spatial data (QGIS & ArcGIS).
* Scripting Language Experience: Experience with a scripting language (e.g. Python).
