Aboutthe Team
The Defence, Diplomacyand Intelligence (DDI) team sits within HM Treasury's PublicServices Group. We are a small (c. 18 people) close-knit teamworking across National Security strategy and spending. We areresponsible for a fascinating and exciting area, including workingclosely across the Ministry of Defence, the Intelligence Agencies,Counter-Terrorism, Cyber security, and the Foreign, Commonwealthand Development Office (FCDO).
Our main focus isto drive the effective and efficient use of taxpayer's money todeliver the UK's defence, security and diplomatic objectives, aswell as coordinating and leading on the Chancellor’s and otherTreasury ministers’ briefing for National Security Council and COBRmeetings.
Aboutthe role
This is a really excitingtime to join the team, as we look ahead to a Spending Review andongoing Strategic Defence Review in an increasingly challenginggeopolitical context. In this post, you will have a significantopportunity to craft and set direction for defence spending,choices, and priorities – where the choices the government makeswill set the context for the rest of the Parliament and beyond.
KeyAccountabilities
1. Developexpertise in Army and Defence Digital policy, becoming the go-toresource for policy analysis. This role involves crafting policythinking, evaluating risks within the defence Land and StrategicCommand portfolios. You'll be presenting recommendations for theupcoming Spending Review.
2. Run day-to-dayspending control, project scrutiny and approvals covering the landwarfare environment, Army capabilities and defence digital. Thisincludes other aspects of MOD’s Equipment Plan. You will engageextensively with MOD and HM Treasury colleagues, gathering anddeveloping evidence to build robust recommendations, and you willlead advice to HM Treasury seniors and ministers ahead of keydecision points.
3. Support HMT’s thinking on theoverall balance of defence capabilities within MOD’s EquipmentPlan, and wider defence policy issues.
4. Buildstrong working relationships with the MOD, the Army, StrategicCommand, Cabinet Office, Infrastructure and Projects Authority, andother parts of Treasury. You will build an extensive network ofcontacts, work collaboratively across boundaries, and be a crediblerepresentative for HMT in cross-Whitehallfora.
5. Become an encouraging member of the team,helping to ensure a positive, encouraging and friendly workingenvironment.
Giventhe requirements of this role, there may be an opportunity toundergo Developed Vetting clearance.
