This is the job
The role places you at the heart of managing and being responsible for the asset vehicle portfolio of AA Driving Schools, which operates the largest driving school fleet in the UK. Your responsibilities include full accountability and efficiency for this vehicle asset portfolio.
You will have full responsibility for the vehicle asset portfolio, ensuring it meets customer demand. This involves working closely with the business and procurement to source the right vehicles at competitive price points. You’ll be overseeing a fleet of approximately 4,000 vehicles, aiming to achieve EBITDA and PBIT targets.
The asset portfolio’s value fluctuates between £40-50 million. Your role is to maximise its efficiency across all service dimensions. You’ll manage the new vehicle supply chain and oversee operational delivery to ensure the driving school’s success. Additionally, you’ll ensure that the vehicles offered are compliant, fit for purpose, and meet end-user demands, providing a top-notch service to franchisees, driving instructors, and the management team.
As a member of the Fleet team supporting the Driving School Senior Management Team (SMT), you play a crucial role in achieving our mission: to be the go-to destination for everything our customers need to start driving with confidence.
What will I be doing?
* Maximising Asset Efficiency: Your role involves maximising asset efficiency across various dimensions, including order efficiency, in-life management, courtesy fleet, and interim fleet and collaborate closely with the remarketing manager to manage the portfolio through end-of-life stages, ensuring overall asset efficiency.
* Supplier Delivery and Compliance: You’ll handle delivery from suppliers in the new vehicle supply chain and ensure that vehicles offered for the driving school are compliant, fit for purpose, and meet end-user demands.
* AA Driving School Vehicle Management: Manage the funding, build, and supply of AA Driving School vehicles to customers.
* Motor Manufacturers and Fleet Suppliers Relationship: Maintain relationships with motor manufacturers and fleet suppliers for vehicle asset services and support procurement in negotiating supply terms for the group while maintaining strong supplier relationships.
* Purchase and Contingent Liabilities: Responsible for purchasing all Driving School vehicles and manage any contingent liabilities related to the fleet.
* Lease Budget and Governance: Handle a lease budget of £10-12 million annually for the current fleet of 4,000 vehicles and ensure necessary paperwork and governance compliance within relevant AA forums.
* Dual Control and Capital Investment: Manage dual control systems and handle capital investment requests.
* Opportunities and Discounts: Maximise opportunities through in-year improvements and tenders, leveraging the Driving School’s volume for the best discounts.
* Team Management and Flexibility: Working with a small team, ensuring flexibility to support in-life and remarketing teams when needed.
* Challenging Asset Issues and Benchmarking: Handle technically challenging asset-related issues (e.g., total loss).
* Continuous Improvement and Product Sales: Continuously improve vehicle asset-related services.
* Facilitate colleagues in selling AA Driving School products involving vehicles.
* Legal Compliance and Pricing Policy: Ensure fleet processes comply with legal requirements (e.g., RFL, MID) for safe and legal fleet operation and contribute to developing fleet-related input for the Driving Schools Pricing Policy.
* Budget and Supply Chain Continuity: Work closely with the Finance Business Partner to develop the annual fleet budget and forecasts and ensure the vehicle asset-related supply chain has full business continuity planning (BCP).
* Franchisee Commitments: Deliver on regulatory commitments for franchisees.
What do I need?
* Analytical Background: Strong analytical background, ideally in the Asset Management space.
* Excel Proficiency: Proven capability in using Microsoft Excel extensively to a high standard.
* Accurate Data Handling: Demonstrated track record of working accurately with data.
* Understanding of Car Supply Markets: Detailed understanding of new car supply markets in the UK, particularly in relation to large fleets.
* Vehicle Leasing Expertise: In-depth knowledge of the vehicle leasing business.
* Financial Appreciation: Excellent level of financial appreciation.
* Supplier and Contract Management: Experience managing suppliers or clients and contracts.
* Change Management and Relationship Building: Experience in landing change, building relationships, and driving profitability.
* Driver Duty of Care Awareness: Knowledge of Driver Duty of Care responsibility.
