The Role
Overall purpose
A Care Assistant will:
1. Assist with all aspects of personal care and support for the relevant client group.
2. Work within agreed principles and guidelines, with limited supervision from the line manager. Work will be largely regulated by laid down procedures with little requirement for creative or innovatory thinking. Contacts will be generally routine or incidental involving the exchange of information on non-contentious matters.
Responsibilities and accountabilities
1. Undertake personal care duties as required to the relevant client group which will typically include toileting, washing, feeding, and manual handling (including hoisting) and transfer.
2. Support the relevant client group in a way that maintains dignity and privacy.
3. Participate in the maintenance of essential record keeping, through brief written recording on individual client records.
4. Undertake domestic tasks, such as cleaning and laundry.
5. Comply with Health and Safety requirements in respect of manual handling and transfer hoisting and the use of protective equipment to aid infection control.
6. Assist the relevant client group in the performance of practical tasks, including shopping and community activities as appropriate to promote independence.
7. Participate in organised activities to meet client group needs, such as excursions, basic food preparation, and domestic tasks.
8. Act as a keyworker as and when required.
9. You would be expected to work within the Gold Standards Framework.
10. Any other lesser or comparable duties as required relating to the particular specialised function of the team or teams.
Person Specification
Must haves:
1. Qualification or proven ability in literacy and basic mathematics.
2. Commitment to achieving NVQ Level 2 qualification.
3. Understanding of personal/physical care needs.
4. Understanding of confidentiality and privacy.
5. Proven experience in a caring capacity.
6. Ability to attend to and assist with a range of physical care needs.
7. Ability to work without close supervision.
8. Empathy with the needs of the relevant client group.
9. Ability to follow care plans and instructions.
10. Ability to maintain/complete records.
11. Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
12. Caring and understanding attitude.
13. Ability to reflect on and learn from experience.
14. Ability to work as an individual or as part of a team.
15. Commitment to the achievement of quality standards.
Good to have:
1. NVQ Level 2/3 in Direct Care.
2. Understanding of legislation relating to the relevant client group.
3. Experience of working with the relevant client group.
