Background & purpose of this role
We are reinventing the world of 50+ golf, putting some of the best players, Major winners and ex Ryder Cup legends front and centre of the brand. Following a ground-breaking joint venture between the European Tour Group and Staysure Founder Ryan Howsam, the Tour’s unique Celeb Pro-Am format, and the opportunity for amateurs to play alongside professionals under tournament conditions and live the life of a pro in the Legends Experience is an experience unmatched in golf and sport.
The Legends Tour is part of the European Tour Group but is structured independently with its own experienced team. This is an exciting time to join the Legends Tour and be part of our huge international growth curve.
Reporting directly to the CMO, the role will involve leading on all internal and external communications for the Tour and will entail travel to tournament sites around the world to manage media attendance, produce engaging media content, press releases and write website reports / features. When not attending tournaments, coverage support from home or the office will be required.
The role will have a significant emphasis on supporting the Commercial Department, including sponsor activations / content to help the Tour monetise our products. Line management responsibilities included in the role.
Key responsibilities
* Developing strategies: Setting and guiding the strategy for communications, website, and public relations messages around the Tour.
* Managing media: Managing all media contacts, acting as a corporate spokesperson, and responding to the media. Manage media attendance at Legends Tour events. Conduct / organise player interviews with the TV presenters and organise media conferences as necessary.
* Sponsorship messaging: Working closely with the Commercial department to drive effective & impactful messaging to our audience. Support the Content & Social Media Manager and Creative Director to produce innovative and engaging digital content and written editorial for Legends Tour & sponsors.
* Managing internal communications: Ensuring effective internal communication to support company morale and efficiency.
* Maintaining brand consistency: Ensuring that all communications preserve the corporate brand.
* Managing communication & Marketing plannings: Managing the overarching communications and content marketing campaign calendars for the Tour. Distribute this content to the Tour’s global network of media contacts and establish new channels. Work closely with the content and social media teams to identify relevant stories and liaise with the production team to see these ideas through from concept to publication. Use of CMS platform to update and maintain content. Regular input into digital projects with CMO, Sri Lanka based Development team, Head of Digital and Head of Change.
* Developing presentations: Assisting executive leadership in developing presentations and speeches.
* Developing and implementing a budget: Assist the CMO in developing, implementing, and adhering to the communications budget.
Experience
* Extensive experience as Head of Communications / Director of Communications (with marketing experience).
* Background in multi-media journalism with strong writing skills.
* Excellent knowledge of web content and social media platforms.
* Good knowledge of publishing software.
* Excellent communication both verbal and written.
* A good knowledge of the game of golf.
* Public Relations experience, ideally in sport.
* Start-up mentality and solution focused individual.
* Experience of working in a fast-paced commercial environment.
* Confident proposal and presentation development.
* Outbound lead generation.
* Engaging with C Suite executives and high net worth individuals.
* Line management experience
Skills and Qualifications
* Experience in both B2B and consumer marketing.
* Proven experience of managing a successful team in a similar capacity.
* Good knowledge of web analytics.
* Experienced in the use of the full range of marketing tools including PR, website management, social media, creative services and Microsoft software suite of products.
* Proven network of industry influencers, media contacts, freelancers and press professionals.
* Expert copywriter with superlative writing, editing and presentation skills with previous experience of ghost writing at a high level.
* Clear experience of building and delivering data driven marketing campaigns and their ongoing optimisation.
* Be a team player who is able to excel working in a small team with a proactive ‘can do’ attitude.
* Positive mindset and open to learning new skills and systems.
* Strong research skills & strong organizational skills, with attention to detail.
* Capable of performing well under pressure.
* Advanced level of Microsoft office, advanced PowerPoint skills.
* Advanced level of CRM management, Salesforce, Monday.com etc.
* Strong communication & interpersonal skills, both internally and externally.
* An understanding of brand dynamics and consumer trends a distinct advantage.
* A passion or empathy with sport/sports entertainment.
Desirable
* Awareness of golf and the golf industry is an advantage.
* Second language an advantage.
