A vacancy has arisen in the Obstetrics & Gynecology departmentfor a Locum Appointment to Service ST1-2 Level due to a vacancy in the GPVTS TrainingProgram.
This is a service post but provides an excellentopportunity for a trainee seeking experience in Obstetrics and Gynecology orindividuals interested in embarking in a career in Obstetrics & Gynecology.
This post is a 1:7 full shift rota which includes out ofhours.
The Department is staffed by 12 Consultants, 1 Specialty Doctor,1 CESR Fellow, 8Specialty Trainees at ST3 and above, 1 ST1-2 trainee and6 GP/VTS trainees.

Main duties of the job
When attached to the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Wards, the Junior ClinicalFellow is responsible for ensuring that all patients are adequately clerked,investigations ordered and results received, acted upon and filed. The administrative duties include ensuringthat discharge summaries are completed within reasonable time.
The Junior Clinical Fellow is also required to attend appropriateclinics and see selected patients under supervision.
When on duty for Labour Suite, the Junior ClinicalFellow work should be organised in order to ensure that patients in thisIntensive Care Area will receive prompt attention at all times. In the evening and at weekends the Junior ClinicalFellow is also on duty on the Obstetric Wards and should be acquainted with allthe obstetric in-patients.
There is a regular GP teaching session on Wednesday afternoons andpostgraduate teaching sessions on Friday afternoons which may be appropriate.

The duties and responsibilities of the post have been constructed havingconsidered the current and anticipated work of the Department. However, duties may be subject tomodification from time to time in accordance with any changes introduced in theDepartment Policy.
The Department
The Gynaecological Service
The gynaecological inpatient unit is located on Ward B11. Atpresent, there are 14 beds. Each year we perform:
1900 day case procedures
600 elective inpatientprocedures
7500 new outpatients.
11000 FU patients
A full range of gynaecology procedures are providedincluding advanced laparoscopic and urogynaecology surgery, advanced ambulatoryprocedures and colposcopy. We are a cancer unit offering early stage cancersurgery, with the advanced surgery being performed at our local cancer centresin Sheffield. There is a very active ambulatory care unit performing Novasureand other outpatient techniques.
There is specific Consultant-led practice in cervicalpathology; oncology; fertility; ambulatory care and urogynaecology; and fullfacilities are available for the support of minimal access gynaecologicalsurgery. There are also other specialist clinics including perineal traumaclinic, vulval, pregnancy advisory and abortion care, joint endocrine clinicand psychosexual clinics
Early pregnancy assessment is supported by a nurse lead teamwith consultant supervision.
The Obstetric Service
The Obstetric unit conducts approximately 2600 - 2700deliveries per year.
The Maternity Unit currently has 23 beds and a Level 2neonatal unit. Consultant presence on the Delivery Suite is hours a week.There are resident evening sessions with non-resident on call overnight.
Antenatal practice is divided up into specific specialityclinics to which expectant mothers are allocated. The vast majority of routineand detailed scans are performed within the department. Specific antenatalclinics are supported by Consultant physicians and Nurse/midwife Specialists.The unit has specialist antenatal clinics which include preterm, multiplepregnancy, diabetes, mental health, endocrine and haematology.
The Neonatal Service
The neonatal unit is designated as a Local Neonatal Unit(level 2) working in conjunction with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit inSheffield Teaching Hospitals. There are 14 cots including 3 intensive/highdependency cots. The department works in close conjunction with the obstetricunit and the neonatal network to ensure effective care of extreme prematurityand complex antenatal problems.
ClinicalGovernance
Inconjunction with Consultant colleagues, to ensure that the requirements ofclinical governance are met.

On-call/Full Shift duties
The rota commitment is currently full shift with prospective cover andon call commitments. The commitment isto The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust.This is reviewed and contracted for prior to each new intake. Any changes to the rota may result in a changein the work schedule.
