Job summary
**This position is open to staff working at the Trust in the 'ECT Family' this includes current East Cheshire NHS Trust employees, bank staff, ISS staff and volunteers at the Trust.**
To provide basic and advanced assistance to trained personnel within the Critical Care unit as delegated by the Registered Nurse on a shift basis. The following duties are a guide to the job and not prescriptive of the duties to be performed.

Main duties of the job
Basic Duties
1. Participation in the admission and orientation of patients/carers and provide writteninformation as is available
2. Assist patients in meeting personal hygiene, toilet and protection needs, as requested
3. Participate in meeting the nutritional needs of the patients, liaising with the unit's Dietician,ensuring the correct ordering of feeds etc.
4. Observe for any emotional/physical changes in patients/carers and report this to theRegistered Nurse (RN), assisting in providing a solution to the problem.
5. Encourage and motivate patients, towards attaining their potential for independence -using own initiative and providing advice.
6. Contribute to ensuring that the critical care environment provides an opportunity for rest
7. Be familiar with the correct manual handling procedures and aids available.
8. Contribute ideas to maintaining the Unit's agreed values, aims and objectives.
Advanced Duties (as delegated by the Registered Nurse and competent to do so)
9. Carry out vena-puncture when required
10. Obtain blood samples via an arterial line - Obtain arterial blood gas results via the bloodgas analyser
11. Performing and documenting basic vital signs - Blood Pressure, Pulse, Respirations,Temperature and Urine output.
12. Performing ECGs
13. Carrying out dressings to tracheostomies, invasive lines and wounds alongside the RN
14. stoma care
15. Setting up bed areas for admission
16. Setting up essential equipment
17. Removal of arterial lines
