We are recruiting a Health & Safety Engineer to join the team at Sizewell B on a permanent basis.
This is a key role within our project and engineering portfolio which is spread across our UK network at all UK sites and stations. You will be supported and mentored by experienced professionals and given the training and opportunities you need to develop and expand your management and leadership skills with larger and more complex projects.
Sizewell B began construction in 1988 and since 1995 has generated 250 TWh of zero carbon electricity, which is the equivalent of enough to power every home in Suffolk for 192 years, or like taking 42 million cars off UK roads for a year. You will be part of a large client-led team at Sizewell B Power Station and will be accountable to the client Project Manager, Programme Manager and/or Construction Manager. Flexible working arrangements between office and home may be possible, however the role will predominantly be based at the Power Station.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide positive leadership on HSE matters within the Portfolio Project Teams and promote the adoption of best practice, with an enthusiastic HSE culture that engages all employees in continuous improvement in HSE performance.
2. Monitor and report on the effectiveness of the HSE Management system and progress against HSE Performance Standards, making recommendations for improvement as appropriate.
3. Accountable to the client PPM or equivalent Group Head, with functional responsibilities to the client HSE Lead. This role has no direct reports.
4. Business travel to UK sites/stations may be required.
5. Report to the Jacobs Operations Manager, while being accountable for project delivery directly to the client.
Everyone working in our team will have a proven track record of working within highly regulated environments with high safety standards and culture. Good communication and organisational skills are a must, with the ability to develop relationships and maintain effective networks and a results-focused, team-centred approach.
Qualifications:
1. HNC in a relevant technical discipline or equivalent.
2. Current qualification/knowledge of the CDM Regulations.
3. Minimum NEBOSH General Certificate, Construction Certificate or NVQ Level 3.
4. Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) desirable.
5. IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management.
6. Operational knowledge of current HSE legislation associated with project work.
7. Good communication skills and the ability to develop networks and working relationships with other groups involved in project delivery.
8. Suitable relevant experience working as a HSE Professional in a project context, including experience working within a highly regulated operational environment, managing contractors, and accident investigation and reporting.
This role will be site-based.
