This role forms part of the Strategic Infrastructure Offshore Engineering Team, responsible for supporting the delivery of national infrastructure that is integral to Net Zero.
As Senior Marine Geotechnical Engineer, you will give technical input and provide quality management across the portfolio of offshore work. You will support the design, engineering, and delivery of subsea cables, including their burial and protection.
You will manage suppliers to ensure geotechnical data is collected, processed, and supplied to the correct standards and specifications.
You will be familiar with industry practices and standards covering the acquisition, processing, and interpretation of geotechnical survey data, working closely with internal and external stakeholders, including survey contractors, consultants, Project Managers, and joint-venture partners.
You will also lead on the implementation and management of workflow and standards within the Marine Geospatial environment as part of an immediate team of 9 after team growth is completed.
The principal value created by this role is the supervision and management of quality to ensure National Grid and our partners can be highly confident that the products and services provided will result in agreed outcomes.
This role is truly hybrid with current members spread from the south coast up to the Midlands with occasional team catch-ups in various offices, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home.

In this case, we’re looking for someone who has experience as a Marine Geotechnical Engineer with experience leading the processing, QC, interpretation, and analysis of marine geotechnical survey data.
You will have knowledge of creating and reviewing geotechnical sampling plans based on marine survey data and experience of marine geotechnical data acquisition, including CPTs, vibrocores, and boreholes, in the offshore and nearshore environments.
You will have an understanding of offshore industry standard geotechnical equipment, vessels, and mobilization, with experience of geotechnical testing, including the requirements for offshore and onshore testing, laboratory analysis, data interpretation, and accreditations.
You will have experience of GIS software, including ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar software.

What You'll Do
You’ll be the technical point of contact for the contractor, Project Manager, and wider team on assigned projects in the portfolio.
Leading data QC on assigned projects, this will include assessment of survey data for viability, route development, and against specification. You’ll provide challenge and review to contractor and consultant documentation, processes, and quality and lead technical discussions relating to scope changes, concessions, or deviations.
You’ll manage day-to-day management of client representatives, including project onboarding and lead improvements to specifications, workflows, and processes, including through identifying lessons learned and new technologies.
Providing technical input into burial, protection, and routing discussions, you’ll also proactively promote safe working and full compliance with SHEQ standards.
What You'll Get
A competitive starting salary between £55,000 – £65,000 dependent on capability.
