Rolls-Royce Submarines is entering a once in a generation period of substantial growth and is looking for a talented and experienced Radiological Waste Advisor/Professional to drive improvements and processes for radiological waste management in an established, long term (10+ year) UK Nuclear infrastructure programme.
Your role will have accountability for providing radiological waste management advice into a major nuclear infrastructure project with a value in excess of £100M. Accountabilities will extend to safety, quality, cost, and time as part of a wider programme of equally high complexity and value (> £1bn). You will report directly to the Head of Future Facility Engineering.
This lead role will be responsible for influencing, managing and developing multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and partners as well as internal and external stakeholders. The project entails requirements capture, optioneering & down selection, development of engineering solutions, all phases of construction, commissioning, and safety case submission in support of the delivery of complex and novel nuclear manufacturing facilities on a Nuclear Licensed Site.

What you will be doing:
You will ensure development of facilities and processes in compliance with statutory guidance, relevant licence and permit conditions, transport legislation, and integration of supporting management arrangements. You will:
1. Provide advice to the governance & engineering teams on Radiological Waste Management
2. Ensure development of facilities and processes in compliance with other regulatory and ‘best practice’ requirements.
3. Advise on the development of systems and specifications for disposal of waste via appropriate radioactive and ‘out of scope’ routes.
4. Checks and critical review of the site’s radioactive waste discharges.
5. Understand and support the development of waste management processes in line with extant Waste Management Arrangements and site constraints.
6. Liaison with stakeholders including regulators, internal teams, and radioactive waste management supply chain.
7. Ensure that Guidance on Release from Radioactive Substances Regulation is applied throughout the project lifecycle.

8. Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline with relevant experience although experience and capability will be taken into consideration.
9. Ideally, accredited by an appropriate professional body.
10. Experience of EPR/RSR permit application process.
11. Working towards or holding Radioactive Waste Advisor status or be willing to work towards the qualification
12. Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in a combination of understanding of company policies on waste management systems and reporting procedures for radioactive waste disposals
