Purpose of the Role
St Andrew’s is embarking on an exciting programme of research in the area of progressive neurological conditions (PNC), including Huntington’s disease (HD), led by the Head of PNC Research Programme. The post is a 3-year fixed-term contract for a Research Assistant to support the ‘Behavioural Manifestations in Adults with Huntington’s disease: measurement and assessment of aggression’ research project within the HD theme. The aim is to investigate aggression and associated risk within HD populations, including developing a way to measure aggression. The project will include studies that use various research methodologies.
The postholder will be based in the St Andrew’s Research Centre on the Northampton site. The primary responsibility is to provide research assistance to the Head of PNC Research Programme, although the postholder will work closely with and be line managed by the Senior Research Assistant (also being recruited). The role is designed for someone who wants to be part of the delivery of high-quality research addressing important issues in relation to mental health and progressive neurological conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Providing research assistance to the Head of PNC Research Programme
2. Contributing to literature reviews and database searches
3. Assisting with the setup of a high-quality project, including:
4. Supporting participant recruitment and undertaking data collection
5. Managing data and conducting supervised analysis using appropriate qualitative analysis or IT and statistical programmes
6. Supporting and contributing to project outputs and attending conferences
The postholder will be expected to perform other duties and tasks, as reasonably requested by the Head of PNC Research Programme.
A bit about you
You will have:
7. A 2:1 or above in a health-related subject with a dissertation by research, along with experience of conducting literature reviews and basic research design
8. Experience of qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis techniques and understanding of research governance requirements is essential
9. An appreciation of data protection and experience of managing confidential and sensitive information
10. Strong communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written) – including some experience of giving presentations
11. A good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams and awareness of NVivo and SPSS
