Job summary
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Research Nurse to join the Research Nursing staff in our developing Research and Innovation delivery team.
As part of the team carrying out clinical procedures, you will contribute to the assessment and management of the care pathways for patients and carers participating in clinical studies. You will undertake recruitment, education and monitoring of trial patients and the collection and documentation of accurate data with focus on increasing the number of patients participating in clinical studies at Mersey are NHS Foundation Trust (the Trust).
Deploying specialist knowledge and previous experience in clinical research, you will form a key part of the Research & Innovation team, contributing to the efficient set up and delivery of research within the Trust.

Main duties of the job
Key responsibilities will include:
1. Working as part of a MDT to assist in the management of clinical trial patients, maintaining effective communication to ensure high quality service delivery.
2. Managing & overseeing a portfolio of research studies.
3. Training & assessing research staff as competent in line with the research competencies framework, acting as a resource & role model for all aspects of research clinical practice.
4. Use relevant clinical knowledge to identify patients suitable for clinical research using inclusion & exclusion criteria and utilising patient records, visiting clinics, wards & outpatients.
5. Carry out physical assessments, take blood/urine samples & process according to specific research protocol.
6. Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of treatment options, treatment side effects & disease processes to support patients.
7. Provide day to day supervision for band 5 research nurses/ research officers within the research team, with responsible for teaching & delivering core training on competencies within research delivery.
8. Implementing quality systems to ensure that the delivery of studies meet requirements with regards to relevant frameworks and participate in GCP training, keeping up to date with any changes in legislation or practice.
9. Work with research teams & investigators to develop strategies to overcome barriers to recruitment & to solve other problems relating to specific studies.

10. Registered Nurse - Current registration with NMC.
11. Evidence of continued professional development.
12. Specialist knowledge of research legislation, Guidelines for Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and National Framework or equivalent.
