Job Description
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic team of experienced drug discoverers and target protein degradation experts in a brand-new research facility.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to support our Leukaemia project. Using your expertise and understanding of leukemic disease biology to develop and run in vitro and cell-based assays to understand the impact of degraders on processes including normal haematopoiesis, differentiation and leukemic stem cell function.
This predominantly lab-based role will give candidates experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team in a drug discovery setting as we advance projects to the clinic.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Design, conduct and analyse flow cytometry datasets to build the understanding of the impact of Amphista molecules on AML pathway biology, leveraging both in-house and CRO capabilities
* Designing, performing and interpreting cell biology and mechanism-of-action studies such as flow cytometry (markers of AML differentiation, leukemic stem cell function and normal haematopoiesis), proliferation assays, immunofluorescence assays to determine levels of degradation associated with changes to cell function.
* Develop, troubleshoot and implement novel cell-based assays using literature as a guide.
* Contribute to the translation biology strategy building the understanding of how degraders can be effective therapies in AML.
* Keep abreast of current literature on cutting edge techniques in the field
Education / Experience:
* PhD in Cell Biology, Pharmacology or related field
* Strong knowledge of multi-target flow cytometry, measuring process such as apoptosis, differentiation and changes in stem cell markers.
* Strong expertise haematological malignancies in particular leukaemia’s (AML), understanding of key processes in the disease and the markers which indicate transitions to different cell states.
* A practical understanding of a wide range of cellular assay methods and technologies and how they can be utilised.
* Evidence of significant scientific productivity and impact through your own personal contributions to projects, including directing discrete work packages
* Demonstrated excellence in independently planning and executing experiments as well as critical data analysis skills.
* Strong interpersonal communication and effective team working with a ‘can-do’ approach to problem solving.
* Excellent organisational and self-motivational skills, with track record of prioritising work and keeping to deadlines
This is a 12 month maternity cover role on a fixed term contract.
What’s on Offer
* Competitive salary
* 25 days annual holiday

More about Amphista
Amphista’s approaches use novel mechanisms to build on all the advantages of targeted protein degradation. In particular, we have shown our approach has the potential to be superior to other TPD approaches (PROTACs, molecular glues etc) through our unique novel mechanisms giving expanded scope and improved druglike properties. We have a range of projects in the discovery phase, initially focused on oncology with potential to expand into other therapy areas. Amphista R&D is based Cambridge, UK from where we also work with a wide range of global collaborators and CROs.
The Amphista team contains a wide range of experienced drug discovery experts across both biology and chemistry disciplines, creating the ideal learning environment to advance your scientific career development quickly. This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast growing and dynamic company operating at the cutting edge of protein degradation-based drug discovery to develop first-in-class medicines to treat cancer and other areas of high unmet medical need.
