About us:
SET Recruitment is based in RCT and has quickly become one of the leading suppliers, seeing its market share significantly increase year on year through forging close relationships with its local schools, carefully nurturing the highest quality of candidates, and truly understanding the specific local requirements of both. We have a keen sense of our social responsibility and are always looking to support our schools and Welsh culture in every way we can. Please give us a call if you would like to find out more about the many exciting projects, we are currently engaged in.
We are looking for numerous Cover Supervisors to fill ongoing requirements across the region. Requests come in all the time and need to be filled as quickly as possible to maintain the highest standards of education. Strong Cover Supervisors are in high demand and will often be block-booked to help cover absences across the school. We are always looking to help our candidates to develop with plenty of free training opportunities to aid continual progression.
What is cover supervision?
Cover supervision is needed for a teacher’s short-term absence from the classroom where the absence was not known about in advance. Pupils in these classes will carry out a pre-prepared exercise under supervision; no active teaching takes place. The duties of a cover supervisor can be summarised as:
1. Supervising the work that has been set on the lesson plan provided, using the necessary resources that have also been provided.
2. Managing the behaviour of pupils in line with the school’s behaviour policy.
3. Responding to any questions that pupils might have about the process.
4. Dealing with any immediate problems or emergencies in line with school policy and procedures.
5. Collecting any completed work at the end of the lesson and returning it to theteacher.
6. Reporting back as appropriate on any issues that arose during the lesson.
Requirements:
7. Candidates would have their own transport allowing them to get to multiple Secondary Schools easily and would be willing to pick up ASAP requests early in the morning to fill short notice absences with local schools. These opportunities will often turn into ongoing placements. SET Education has an excellent track record of assisting its workers into full time permanent positions after a period of supply if that is their objective.
8. The Cover Supervisor will have excellent behaviour management skills perfectly adapted to the school’s own behaviour policies. A robust, outgoing, and friendly personality will allow them to take charge of difficult classes and defuse any potential disturbances before they escalate.
9. You will need a good standard of written and spoken English and have capacity to develop curriculum knowledge. You must possess excellent communication skills and be computer literate.
10. We will work around your availability and your own travel limits, but if you are looking to secure something long term, the willingness to work full time is a significant advantage.
11. Being able to work the full school day of 8.30-15.30 is essential.
12. Experience working as a Cover Supervisor in the UK is essential to go straight into the role. If you have a good level of experience working as a Teaching Assistant in the UK or other relevant experience, you may be suitable to attend one of our Cover Supervisor Training Days if this pathway is of interest to you.
