Due to significant growth over the course of2024 OCU have an exciting new opportunity for a SeniorEstimatorwith a water and utilities backgroundto join our team based inTaunton or Bridgend.
The purpose of the role isto prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for utility andM&E projects ensuring that all bids are profitable and meetcompany standards. The Estimator will work closely with the projectmanagement and quantity surveying teams to support the successfuldelivery of projects.
Duties andResponsibilities:
CostEstimation:
* Preparedetailed cost estimates for projects including materials labourequipment and subcontractor costs.
* Develop andmaintain cost databases and estimatingtemplates.
BidPreparation:
* Analysetender documents specifications and drawings to understand projectscope and requirements.
* Coordinate and compileall aspects of the bid process including tender submissions andprequalification questionnaires.
* Work withsuppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitivequotes.
RiskAnalysis:
* Identify andassess potential risks associated with projectestimates.
* Develop mitigation strategies andincorporate risk contingencies into costestimates.
CostManagement:
* Monitor andcontrol project costs throughout the bidding and constructionphases.
* Provide cost advice and support toproject teams during projectexecution.
MarketAnalysis:
* Conductmarket research to understand current trends material costs andlabour rates.
* Maintain awareness of industrydevelopments and innovations that may impact costestimates.
CollaborationandCommunication:
* Liaisewith project managers engineers architects and other stakeholdersto gather necessary information for accurateestimates.
* Maintain clear and effectivecommunication with all relevant parties throughout the estimatingprocess.
Documentationand Reporting:
* Prepareand present detailed cost reports and bid summaries to seniormanagement.
* Maintain accurate records of allestimates bids and associateddocumentation.
SkillsandExperience:
Education:
* Adegree in Quantity Surveying Construction Management CivilEngineering or a related field.
* Membership witha professional body such as the Royal Institution of CharteredSurveyors (RICS) or the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) isadvantageous.
Experience:
* Provenexperience as an Estimator within the constructionindustry.
* Experience in preparing estimates fora variety of project types including residential commercial andinfrastructure.
Skills:
* Anexperienced Estimator with a strong background in Utilities/ Waterand M&E.
* Strong analytical andnumerical skills.
* Proficient in usingestimating software and tools (e.g. CostX ConquestCandy).
* Excellent attention to detail andaccuracy.
* Good negotiation and communicationskills.
* Ability to work under pressure and meettight deadlines.
* Strong organisational and timemanagement skills.
* Full UK drivinglicense.
* Willingness to travel to project sitesand client meetings asrequired.
