Job summary
The Haematology Department is seeking an enthusiastic, friendly and team-oriented individual for a part-time Medical Secretary position (Monday to Friday).
The successful candidate will provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to the consultants, Anticoagulant Specialists, and Haematology Nurse.
This role carries significant responsibility and requires a high level of commitment and a positive attitude to ensure the efficient management of the haematology office.
The ability to prioritize workload daily and to address unexpected queries and demands is essential.
Additionally, occasional travel to the St Albans site will be required.
Main duties of the job
The department is looking for someone who can:
Provide a complete confidential secretarial service for the consultants, of both a clinical and non-clinical nature, regularly transcribing complex medical terminology within a high-volume workload, including the use of audio, together with associated photocopying and filing.
Deal with telephone and personal enquiries from patients, GPs, other health professionals, etc, exercising independent judgment and initiative, giving information and non-clinical advice, and ensuring accurate messages are conveyed and appropriate action taken.
Give out Pathology results from the ICE system to GPs, Consultants, and other medical Professionals.
Manage Haematology Generic Emails, Electronic Referral System (eRS) waiting list functions, providing the consultants with appropriate information regarding referrals and appointments.
Prioritise workload under the direction of the office manager and in the absence of other team members, to provide cover for essential tasks.

1. AMSPAR or equivalent level of knowledge.
2. RSA III or equivalent experience in same field.
