We’re seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to be a key player in their project team, contributing to the ongoing success of works at Heathrow Airport .
Key Responsibilities: Estimating & Tender Preparation: Prepare detailed and accurate electrical cost estimates for large-scale, long-term projects at Heathrow Airport.
Review project specifications, technical drawings, and tender documents to assess electrical requirements and provide accurate pricing.
Conduct thorough take-offs of materials, equipment, and labour requirements from engineering drawings.
Work closely with the bid team to ensure the tender submission is complete, competitive, and in line with client expectations.
Cost Analysis & Value Engineering: Identify and propose cost-saving opportunities without compromising on quality or compliance.
Evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotes to ensure best value for money while meeting project specifications.
Propose innovative solutions to meet budgetary constraints or improve project profitability.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Management: Liaise with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather information and clarify project needs.
Work closely with procurement teams to source materials and secure competitive pricing from suppliers.
Attend pre-tender meetings with clients, providing expert input on technical requirements and project scopes.
Maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors throughout the bidding process.
Project Handover: Ensure a smooth handover of successful bids to the project management and delivery teams, providing clarity on project budgets, costings, and scope.
Assist the project team with variations and change orders as necessary, ensuring accurate costing of any project amendments.
Market Research & Competitiveness: Stay updated on market trends, material costs, and competitor pricing to ensure bids are competitive and commercially viable.
Benchmark against similar projects and update pricing models as necessary to reflect current market conditions.
Compliance & Standards: Ensure all estimates adhere to industry standards, building regulations, and client-specific requirements.
Be familiar with electrical design and installations in compliance with BS7671 Wiring Regulations and other industry codes relevant to airport projects.
Skills and Experience Required: Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience in electrical estimating within the building services industry.
Proven track record of tendering on projects, preferably within airports, infrastructure, or high-security environments.
Experience with M&E projects valued at multi-million-pound levels.
Qualifications: Ideally NVQ Level 2 or higher in Electrical Installation or related field.
Proficiency in industry-standard estimating software (e.g., Amtech, Trimble, or similar).
Strong understanding of UK electrical regulations, including 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
Skills: Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in preparing cost estimates and bids.
Strong analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to assess detailed drawings and specifications.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills to work with suppliers, clients, and internal teams.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with working in highly regulated environments, with experience in airport projects being a distinct advantage but not essential.
