Description
We are seeking a Product Manager to lead a team of Product Owners in creating and delivering a robust roadmap for our Omnichannel products and functionality. You will be a champion for the collaborative development process, using insight and data to ruthlessly prioritise high value initiatives covering a blend of consumer enhancements, business process improvements and technical system changes.
As well as leading the Product Owner team you will take specific responsibility for liaising with the business stakeholders to ensure that the organisation is fully engaged with and supportive of the quarterly roadmap sequencing and the more detailed Product Owner backlogs.
The role holder will be expected to act as a role model for the Product Owner team in driving the ways of working across the Digital and Data transformation programme and helping the organisation to be laser focus on the highest value opportunities at all times.
Key Responsibilities
1. Responsible for quarterly roadmap planning that feeds into the overall product roadmap, creating this two quarters out
2. Responsible for making sure that the highest value initiatives are sequenced correctly within the quarterly roadmap covering:
· Consumer initiatives
· Business processes improvement
· Technical system changes
3. Accountable for ensuring that the sequence is supported by the correct level of due diligence to aid effective prioritisation (utilising RICE modelling)
4. Accountable for making sure that Product Owners are laser focused on the problems to solve and required outcomes for the backlog initiatives
5. Accountable for making sure that the Product Owner backlogs support the overall product roadmap
6. Fully transparent with stakeholders about the prioritisation of the quarterly roadmap providing evidenced based decision making to support the quarterly roadmap sequencing
7. Responsible for ensuring that stakeholders are fully appraised on current priorities and sequencing
8. Responsible for sharing post launch metrics and learnings with stakeholders and leadership
9. Accountable for ensuring they are fully up to date on the latest business and consumer metrics
10. Accountable for ensuring that all prioritised initiatives are clearly aligned to business and consumer metrics
11. Working with HoUX (Head of UX) to ensure latest consumer research and insight is a core part of their work
12. Regular engagement with Engineering and QA leads to share quarterly roadmap initiatives and sequencing, creating greater transparency upfront
13. Collaborate with the IT to identify and implement technology solutions that streamline processes and improve efficiency
14. Continually review the product teams ways of working to seek the most optimal and efficient approach, which can then feed into the overall ways of working to continually optimize the end-to-end delivery process
15. Champion the programme ways of working with the product owners to create consistency and rigor across squads, creating a continual improvement mindset
16. Provide day to day support and direction to the product owner team
17. Manages the team and takes accountability for their performance
18. Inspire and motivate the team to perform to their best
19. Acts as a role model by collaborating with stakeholders across the business
20. Attract and retain a diverse pool of talent who reflect the Pets at Home values and behaviours
21. Represent the business at product events to build a network and pipeline the team resource
22. Set the standards within the team, acting as a role model of the Pets behaviours and values
23. Support the HoOP (Head of Omnichannel product) with team culture, direction and brand perception
24. Chair and drive the team ceremonies and action plans
This is a ‘hybrid’ role, so involves working two days per week from our Support Office in Handforth (Cheshire).
Essential Experience, Knowledge & Expertise
The role requires:
25. At least 5 years experience of operating in a product role, with experience of management, preferably in a product related role in particular, deep understanding of subscription models within a commerce domain
26. Experience of Subscription service propositions (leading or product owning)
27. Experience of operating in an Omnichannel focused business, direct to consumer being preferable
28. Strong understanding of the methodology associated with Product Discovery
29. Strong understanding of the Scrum methodology
30. Prior experience of working directly with Engineering squads on a daily basis
31. Advocate of agile methodologies that are applied based on what is appropriate for the Pets organisation i.e. not wedded to pure agile methodologies
32. Hands on experience of working with research, UX and UI teams
33. Demonstrated success in releasing products that have met or exceeded business objectives

35. Experience of mentoring and supporting product owner development plans

36. Remain close to the core of the business – good overview of the key metrics and organisation priorities and challenges
37. Clear on the vision and supporting roadmap to get there – create a roadmap of initiatives that take the business closer to the vision
38. Outcome focused – understanding of how to set and measure outcomes for initiatives to support the Product Owners
39. Comfortable with data – generate actionable data focused priorities
40. Understand the consumers needs – ability to source and understand user feedback from multiple forms
