Due to the rapid growth of our Practice, we have a great new opportunity for a Practice Nurse at StWulfstan Surgery.
This is a great opportunity for a PracticeNurse to work in a friendly, compassionate practice that givesstaff the opportunity to deliver incredible levels of patient care. Thesuccessful post-holder will report to the Nurse Manager and work for between 4 and 8 sessions per week.
Main duties of the job
Provide high-quality nursing care to patients under thesupervision of the Nurse Manager
Perform clinical reviews and assessments, administerinjections and vaccinations and assist with procedures as directed.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records anddocumentation in accordance with regulatory standards.

Job Title : Practice Nurse
Reports to : Nurse Manager
Hours: 4-10 sessions per week

Job Summary
To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team.
Job Responsibilities
Following agreed clinical protocols perform duties including:-
1. Asthma reviews
2. COPD reviews
3. Diabetes reviews
4. Multi-morbidity reviews
5. Coil check, removal, insertion and replacement
6. Ring pessary insertion
7. Cervical cytology
8. Wound care including dressings and removal of sutures, staples and clips
9. Contraception (pill and injection)
10. Menopause and HRT monitoring
11. Swabs
12. Routine and childhood immunisations
13. Travel advice and vaccination
14. Urinalysis
15. INR monitoring
16. Injections including B12, Zoladex, Prostat and Depo
17. Assisting GPs with minor surgery
18. Blood Pressure Measurement
Other tasks include
19. Ordering stock from clinical suppliers and path lab supplies
20. Attend and participate in team and practice meetings
21. Maintaining clinical room, stocking and rotating items as required
22. Chaperoning and assisting patients who are being examined by another clinician.
23. Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
24. Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
25. At all times there will be a requirement to maintain accurate records
26. A duty to advise senior practice nurse of potential problems or errors within a range of assigned tasks
27. On occasion there may be a requirement to undertake home visits is this still relevant?
28. Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post

Health & Safety:
The post-holder will ensure compliance with rules relating to their own and others health and safety and infection control as defined in the practice Health & Safety Policy and the practice Infection Control policy and published procedures. This will include (but will not be limited to):
32. Using personal security systems such as Little Green Button within the workplace according to Practice guidelines
33. Awareness of national standards of infection control and cleanliness and regulatory/contractual/professional requirements, and good practice guidelines
34. Responsible for the correct and safe management of the specimens process including collection, labelling, handling, use of correct and clean containers, storage, and transport arrangements
35. Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills
36. Monitoring practice facilities and equipment in relation to infection control, ensuring that provision of hand cleansing facilities, wipes etc are sufficient to ensure a good clinical working environment. Lack of facilities and Initiation of remedial/corrective action where needed or escalation to responsible management
37. Safe management of sharps procedures including training, use, storage, and disposal
38. Actively identifying and reporting of health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognised
39. Keeping own work areas and general/patient areas generally clean, and sterile, identifying issues and hazards/risks in relation to other work areas within the business, and assuming responsibility for the maintenance of general standards of cleanliness across the business in consultation (where appropriate) with Senior Practice Nurse
40. Routine management of own areas and maintenance of workspace standards
41. Waste management including collection, handling, segregation, container management, storage, and collection
42. Decontamination control procedures fogging, management and training, and equipment maintenance
43. Maintenance of sterile environments

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
58. Registered nurse with current NMC registration and active PIN
59. Post-registration study in topics allied to general practice.
60. Chronic disease management qualifications.
61. Competence to undertake Asthma, COPD and Diabetic clinics / reviews and hold relevant certificates
62. Understanding of health and safety issues.
Experience
Essential
63. Experience of supporting people, their families and carers in a related role
64. Experience of working in primary care
Desirable

66. Evidence of clinical skills and experience in treatment room consultation, screening, management of long-term conditions, cervical cytology sampling, vaccinations and immunisations, assisting with minor surgery, family planning and menopause, dressing and wound care
