Job Description
Job Title: Data Scientist / Software Engineering Contractor (Fixed Term)
Location: Hybrid/ Onsite in Dundee
Duration: 3-month Contract (Full-Time)
About the Role:
I am currently seeking a talented and motivated Data Scientist to join a dynamic team of software engineers for a fixed-term contract. This role will allow you to work at the intersection of software development and data science, contributing to an innovative project aimed at improving performance through the analysis of telemetry data. As part of this exciting opportunity, you’ll be working with a team that focuses on delivering high-quality software for mission-critical devices.
You will play a key role in examining historical data, identifying patterns, outliers, and anomalies, and delivering actionable insights to enhance system efficiency and reliability. This role is perfect for an individual with a passion for data analytics and software engineering who enjoys problem-solving and working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Data Analysis: Explore and analyse historical telemetry data to understand patterns and trends. You will look for anomalies, outliers, and other significant changes over time that can inform system improvements and optimisations.
* Collaboration: Work closely with a highly skilled team of software engineers to recommend data-driven changes that improve system performance and reliability. You’ll use your insights to guide decisions and identify potential areas for improvement.
* Reporting: Create and present detailed technical reports to communicate your findings. Your ability to translate complex data insights into actionable recommendations will be critical to your success in this role.
* Problem-Solving: Use a methodical and data-driven approach to tackle technical challenges, ensuring that recommendations are both technically sound and practically applicable.
Required Skills and Experience:
* Educational Background: Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
* Data Analytics Experience: Proven experience working as a Data Scientist or in a similar analytical role, with a strong track record of using data to drive business or system improvements.
* Technical Proficiency: Strong proficiency in data analytics and computational statistics. Experience with Splunk is highly preferred, but familiarity with other data analysis and visualisation tools will also be considered.
* Programming Skills: Solid experience in programming languages such as Python, SQL, or similar tools commonly used in data analysis.
* Collaboration and Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. You should be comfortable working in a collaborative environment and capable of explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
* Self-Motivation: Ability to work independently, managing your own time and meeting deadlines without supervision. You will be expected to take ownership of your projects and deliver high-quality results within tight timeframes.
* Attention to Detail: A meticulous and detail-oriented approach to data analysis. You will need to identify subtle patterns or anomalies in the data and understand their implications.
Additional Desirable Skills:
* Experience in data visualisation and developing dashboards that help non-technical stakeholders understand key insights.
* Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes for deploying and managing analytical environments.
* A solid understanding of machine learning techniques would be a bonus, though not a strict requirement for this role.
