Main duties of the job
The Pharmacy Technician will have a key role in supporting the Clinical Pharmacists and PCN with the delivery of the new Network Contract DES Service specifications. For the new Structured Medications Review and Optimisation requirements this will include tackling over-medication of patients, including inappropriate use of antibiotics, withdrawing medicines no longer needed through NHS-led programmes such as low priority prescribing and medicines optimisation more widely. For Enhanced Health in Care Homes residents will benefit from regular clinical-pharmacy led medicines reviews.

Job description
Job responsibilities
1. Support practice clinical pharmacists and practice clinical teams to provide a safe and effective repeat prescribing service.
2. Comply with legal and professional requirements and with safe systems of work for re-authorising repeat prescriptions.
3. Co-ordinate medication review appointments and any changes of medication as advised by the clinical team.
4. Liaise with pharmacies on the supply of prescribed drugs, alert clinicians of any supply issues and forward recommendations of alternatives.
5. Medicines reconciliation post discharge and on other transfers of care.
6. Bring queries to clinical team to include under or over usage.
7. Day to day handling of prescription queries within area of own competence.
8. Delivery of training and development to practice administrative staff who process repeat prescription requests to support improved co-ordination and effective pharmacy administration.
9. Use and maintain information reporting systems and databases relevant to the position including incident reporting, prescribing data and patient outcomes.
10. Participate in practice meetings, and other meetings to improve engagement of the role.
11. Utilise GP practice clinical systems to conduct prescribing audits.
12. Support the clinical pharmacists and practices with the work required
13. Support the clinical pharmacists in shared care monitoring and processes.
14. In collaboration with practice Clinical Pharmacists and GP Prescribing Leads ensure that all major MHRA drug alerts, where appropriate and within levels of competence, are acted upon within practices over an appropriate time frame and to advise on any medication changes that occur as a result
